Session 51: You Can't Go Home Again

Engagement Party

52nd of Wintercrest 22nd year of the Second Era
When the Regulators returned to the estate, they found Clambock Levut wandering the halls with a drink in hand and staring at various paintings and other decorative art. When he noticed them he expressed relief that they had made it back safely. He asked Malcolm to stay and talk for a moment.
He mentioned that he wanted to throw an engagement party for Malcolm and Arget Ethyn, but instead of inviting a bunch of socially significant strangers, he wanted to make it just the closest friends of the Regulators that knew about their important mission; Ethed, Tidgrud, Rupert Wasser, Lord Ozin Lorimer.
During the day before the party, the Regulators split up to prepare for their trip. Meara sought out an operator in The Nightshifters who confirmed Malcolm still had a wanted status in Rum Lin. Malcolm went to Al-Hai's Bazaar to purchase a magic item to allow him to breathe underwater, and went to do research on potential threats in the wild lands of Rum Lin. The mention of occasional Hydra sightings he warned the party to make sure they are able to do fire damage.
At the engagement party, Jarl Rupert Wasser gifted the couple a small silver statuette replicating the silver lions in his great hall. Lord Ozin Lorimer brought Malcolm a box of fire bullets and Arget a magic mirror that would allow her to see their unborn child.
Malcolm assisted Zuko is begining his prank on Lorimer, adding keys to his ring until it is too heavy for his pants to stay up.
During dinner, Arget asked Malcolm where they were headed to next. When he mentioned Laurum Sor, she asked if he thought his father was still around. Malcolm admitted he didn't know, but he would be sure to check in on him while he was there.
Ethed listened as Meara filled her in on everything that had been happeneing. In return she updated Meara about the progress of assembling the The Holy Regulators and expressed some misgivings about sharing Fort Anexa with Alexandra Nordheim and the Order of the Crystal Eye.
After dinner, Clambock Levut gave his gift to the couple in the form of a song about how Malcolm and Arget met (with heavy artistic license.)
When the party ended, Clambock thanked Malcolm for the opportunity for diversion. He lameneted that every celebration for accomplishments in Anexa seems to be punctuated by worse news about the situation with Orcus. He informed Malcolm that some of the regiments of Earrenian Imperial Vanguard that had been sent east had gone to battle with Orcus' undead forces and had not returned.
During the trip to Rum Lin, Meara spent soem time with one of the smut novels she had purchased. She was dissapointed with the book for its intended ourpose but it did tell an interesting adventure story that seemed to be filled with text book historical excerpts. The story mentioned a strange supernatural aquired by the king. Everyone in the city was turned to stone after the kingdom's enemies had been defeated because the king renegged on some sort of deal.
Zuko also took some reading time and studied the book on ancient myths. The entry on the "Merfolk of Acreomond" mentioned that they are an undeniable historical fact but they have not made contact with any modern civilizations. There were once settlements located around what is modern day Rum Lin.
The entry on the "Stone Army" mentioned a King who was granted an army of stone soldiers by a fae creature to help his besiged kingdom. Most accounts suggest the kigdom eventually fell anyway, but there are no clear indications of why.
Memory Lane 57th of Wintercrest 22nd year of the Second Era
Immidiately after landing in Rum Lin, they were approached by a small detachment of the Tercio Legion. Malcolm remembered from his time growing up there that travelers looking to do business in the cities did well to bribe the guards to avoid being harrassed. He paid the bribe and they were so impressed with it, they threw in a little helpful warning about a recent rash of thefts in the city.
Malcolm told Thradreg Duskchin to go find work for about a week, and the party headed into town. They stopped by a local tavern and tossed the bar keep a few extra coins for local news. The barkeep mentioend the thefts, but said all else in the area is exceptionaly good.
Malcolm asked about Román Dávalos, and the barkeep informed him that he has been gradually increasing his land size and influence. Malcolm brought up Amis Boone and the barkeep said that he had been reduced to a field hand after "Percival" became a fugative.
The party then headed down to Hacienda de Dávalos to see if they could catcha glimpse of Malcolm's father, but to no avail. He then approached hte guards at the gate informing them that he was a bounty hunter who was aware of recent citings of himself int he area, and watned to talk to Malcolm's father. He was escorted to Román Dávalos who agreed to let him speak to Amis if he agreed to bring Malcolm to him when captured so he could get credit for the capture. He would pay the bounty plus 10 percent. Malcolm agreed and was escorted out to Amis. Once he was out of ear shot of the guard, he addressed his father, and was at first dismissed, because Amis believed Percival was dead.
Malcolm dropped his disguise and and addressed him again. This time Amis reacted with shock. He explained that he thought the only way he would not have been captured or made contact with his was if he was dead. Malcolm got information of where he ws staying and promissed to return to rescue him. He slipped him a piece of the Scroll of Message and returned to the res tof the party. He informed them of a plan to return and turn himself in to Román and recieve the bounty before staging a break out for his father.
The party agreed and they proceeded towards the wilderness north of the city. Zuko determined there was a longer route they could take to the west that would keep them out of the worst of the swamp, and they decided to take that extra time.
