Session 49: In the House of my Enemies

General Summary

Manos

47th of Wintercrest 22nd year of the Second Era
Manos Zenas inspected Meara pointing out that he had never seen a member of Ivorr's Hunstmen with elven blood, or operating a cargo ship for that matter. He asked Malcolm (still disguised as Haala) if Serenity attacked the Aóratos or if VanDevries initiated agression.   Malcolm responded mostly with truth: That Serenity, along with The Solia ambushed them, but that the Aóratos won and only VanDevries was lost. Hearing that Meara was associated with The Solia angered him, and he asked what happened to it. Malacolm claimed that The Solia was destroyed and all crew assumed lost. Manos said that Meara would be appropriately punished on behalf of the captain of the Solia. He then noticed that Meara was still armed and attempted to take her sword. She tried to stop him and Malcolm slapped down her hands, taking the sword himself.   Manos ordered her taken to the same place where Marcus Sheppard's family was being kept and invited Malcolm to his quarters. Malcolm placed Meara's sword against a nearby table and Zuko discreetly picked it up. As one of the men escorting Meara went to unlock the cell door, and Manos nearly had Malcolm to his quarters, the sound of cannon fire could be heard outside.   Meara broke free from her rope and punched both men escorting her so hard that she killed them. Malcolm dropped his disguise and started firing on Manos from behind. A short time later, Manos opened his third eye and unleashed a devistating psychic attack that left Malcolm paralized, then threw him across the room. Meara and Zuko fought Manos, the 15 bandits in the hideout and Manos' pet Blink Dog trying to protect Malcolm from further injury. Meara managed to restrain Manos and he retaliated by trying to use his psychic attack again, this time killing some of his own people in the process. Meara finaly finished him off, decapitating him and intimidating the remaining underlings into surrendering. Malcolm finaly recovered from his paralysis and killed one of the bandits and the blink dog. He then checked in with Lara Jennings as there was still the sound of fighting outside. She said they were close to clearing all of the batteries but if they saw Marcus' brother to be vauge.   Zuko found Marcus' brother and his family, informing him only that they were told he was in trouble and sent to rescue him, but not by who. A short time later, Lara entered and informed them that The Solia rushed in to the inlet and exchanged fire with the cannon batteries before being knocked from the sky, and the captain was one of the only people that had not made it to shore.   Malcolm had Marcus' family brought to Serenity and ordered the ship to hover over the remains of The Solia. Meara jumped from the gangplank and flew down to the reckage, succesfully finding Marcus and bringing him back to Serenity. Kaylee managed to resucitate him and had Meara and Malcolm bring him to sick bay for healing.   The Regulators and all the other survivors of the battle returned to the hideout and shared a feast to celebrate. Marcus was reunited with his brother and Lara paid The Regulators for thier work. She told them they would be taking the Aóratos to replace The Solia, but Serenity could still claim some of the cannons as she hoped the Solia crew would get back to honest business and wouldn't need extreme firepower any longer. SHe also informed them that they would handle returning the freed slaves to their homes, though some had already volunteered to stay on as crew members.   During the meal, Malcolm recieved a message from Arget Ethyn checking in on him. He informed her that he had just narrowly survived a fight, and though that concerened her she said she appriciates the honesty. After the conclusion of the meal, and the exchange of cannons, Serenity set course for Anexa, flying into an intense thunderstorm. In the middle of the night, Malcolm was roused by Trystan Evan who seemed a bit startled. WHen he asked why Trystan was waking him, the question answered himself as he heard the knocking sound coming from elsewhere in the ship. he followed the sound to the cargo bay where Meara and Wulffric met him; Meara having been awoken by Wulffric's growling. The knocking sound was coming from the man door in the gangplank, as if someone was hanging onto the oustside of the ship and seeking entrance while the ship was in mid flight.   Malcolm pulled his guns and had Meara opeen the door. In the wind and rain, floating infront of the door was a pale skinned man with long dark hair and glowing red eyes. Malcolm's "eyes of the grave" ability revealed the man to be undead. Behind him a dark carriage was being pulled through the air by what appeared to be a giant bat. He pulled a sealed letter from his pocket saying, "My apologies for the late hour, but I come bearing an important missive from Lord Silas. May I enter?" They cautiously allowed him to come in.   To be continued...
