Session 33: Infernum Aurora

General Summary

To Kill a Demi-God

26th of Wintercrest 22nd year of the Second Era   Malcolm released the first volley of shots against Diabolus, missing every time. Meara attempted to trap him with her Ethereal Trap spell but he resisted and leaped away. Diabolus was able to use the tower against them creating traps, hazards and defenses that did almost as much damage to the party as he did.   Meara was knocked unconscious and Zuko was on his last leg when Malcolm finished Diabolus off with his Winter's Grasp round, reducing him to a pile of ice. When Diabolus died the floating platforms sank and got wedged between the walls of the tower. Water could be heard rushing in from below as the tower itself began to tear and collapse. Zuko picked up Meara's body on the flying carpet as Malcolm rushed to the remains to find Arget Ethyn.   The walls at the top of the tower tore open and Serenity swooped into view with the gangplank open. Zuko plucked the large obsidian looking stone from the pile and flew to the ship, while Malcolm picked up Arget and ran to the edge of the tower. He leaped across the 20 foot gap and Thradreg Duskchin pulled the ship in a bit closer allowing him to land on the gangplank.

Infernum Aurora

Kaylee checked Arget's condition and assured Malcolm that she and the baby are in good health. The ship landed outside of Elta's temple and the party was greeted by a small group in dark clothing armed with crossbows. They didn't appear poised for an attack, but Meara's silver tell vibrated as they approached. A human man from the group stepped forward and asked if they were the ones that killed Diabolus. He explained that they were there to deal with the army of demons that appeared to be preparing to march on Anexa, but most of them were pulled back into their hellish realm when Diabolus was defeated.   His eyes began to glow read and a burning brand appeared on his face as he introduced himself as Amon of the Infernum Aurora. Zuko recognized the name and explained to the party that they were a loose order of Revenant demon hunters he always thought were a myth. Amon explained that besides thanking them for defeating Diabolus, they also needed access to the temple, as some of the survivors inside would be revenants themselves, and could be dangerous if not given training and discipline.   Malcolm agreed and entered the temple. He explained to Flilvala, the head priestess of Nallula that the crises was over, but there were revenants among the survivors, and a group outside asking to take them under their wing. With Malcolm's persuasion, she invited Amon to pass the wards and make his case. She reluctantly agreed as he called out "the branded" and about a dozen of the surviving townsfolk revealed their brands.   Malcolm asked if there was anything they could do to assist with rebuilding the town, but the Cleric explained that with only about 20 survivors it would be best to simply bring the refugees to Anexa and let Clambock Levut decide what to do about rebuilding in the spring. She asked only that they wait until dawn to leave so she and her peers were able to put the souls of the rest of the town to rest.   Serentiy was parked near The Welcoming Maiden when Arget finally woke up. Malcolm explained that most of the three thousand people of the town were killed and much of it needed repaired but her inn was mostly intact. She joked that she was thinking of selling the place because "the neighborhood has gone to hell." She asked what was next for her, and Malcolm told her that they were headed for Anexa, and he may be able to find her safe living arrangements there. He helped her to his quarters for a more comfortable night's sleep, and the crew battened teh hatches for the night.   Half way into the night, Meara was awoken, but not sure at first by what. The ship was quiet and the town dark. Then she heard a loud howling from outside the ship. Looking out her window she saw a large ethereal direwolf; the same entity that guided her away from home as a child and brought her to Jakthytta. She donned her armor and sward and snuck out of the ship, following the tracks of the wolf into the Twilight Forest. She was just about to turn back for backup when she caught up with the wolf. Facing away from her the wolf began to grow and become more solid. After a few moments it had taken the form of a 12 foot tall Leviathan that she recognized as Ivorr himself.   Session 34: Öldungadalurinn Part 1
