Session 25

General Summary

Having been bested by Siviks, the party makes their way out of the Red Legion mining tunnels. Throwing stealth to the wind, they excite a few Cabal as they depart. Traveling overland on their way back to the Trostland landing zone, the group has several traveling encounters.

On the first night of camping, a family of Lightless humans passes by the party. Ernesto and Zelle are awake to meet them, and they are overjoyed with meeting Guardians. The two Hunters escort the family on the rest of their journey to a nearby village, and are blessed by the old woman as a thank you. Zelle remarked she felt humbled by this experience.

The next day, Bentley spots a metal box lying in the middle of the road. Driving his sparrow over it, the box is jettisoned into Cloak's face, causing the party to pause momentarily. Upon closer inspection, the box is wrapped in twine and covered in messages reading "DO NOT OPEN". Naturally, the party opens the box. Inside is an Ahamkara claw bone. Judge swiftly advises the box be given to him for safekeeping.

The following morning while the party rests briefly, they are interrupted by a clumsy Hunter falling to his death from a cliffside. His Ghost excuses the intrusion while resurrecting the unfortunate soul, who had stumbled to his death rather clumsily while practicing with a weapon. He did not give his name, instead opting for the "Splatty-Boy" nickname Zelle bestowed upon him hastily before seeing himself out. That same day, the party communicated with several parties via radio. Ari reached out to The Spider to ask if he knew of the mysterious Fallen house that had interrupted the party's plans, careful to disguise the reason for her asking. The Spider was not sure but promised to begin research immediately. Cloak also radioed to Devrim Kay to ask if it would be possible to clear some airspace for the party to hasten their return to the Tower. Devrim made no promises but would get in touch with Amanda Holliday about the possibility of some aerial interference in the Sludge. While this meant backtracking a full day's trip, the party felt it was worth it.

The following day, two events took place. The party paused momentarily to marvel at a small shack-house in the woods that appeared to be completely unaffected by the frigid weather. Upon further inspection, the house was covered by an impassible energy barrier, and the occupant was maintaining a lush garden. When the landowner emerged to tell the party off, they elected to leave the old man be. As they arrived in the Sludge, both Bentley and Ari developed symptoms of a common cold. Amanda Holliday arrived to distract Fallen skiffs with some dogfighting, and the party managed to take to the skies and return to the Last City.

Touching down in the Last City, the party finds it is late in the day of the main Dawning festivities. Eva Levante is providing cookies to Guardians in the Tower, and gifts are flowing between Tower staff members and Guardians alike. The party brings their findings from the forge directly to Jarek, who is confused by the information they provide him with. Ada-1 interrupts the conversation aggressively and moves the party to her laboratory nearby, butting heads with Bentley over ownership of the Jotunn he had forged. The party provides her with all the information and items they retrieved from the Forge and informs her that a Fallen house has taken control of the mechanism they uncovered, adding that this Fallen house seemed to be intimately familiar with the forges and their technology. Ada's focus is torn between the new information she received and the desire to inspect the items she was given, but she concludes that it will be necessary to get the Forge technology away from the Fallen as soon as possible. She identifies a reference to another forge being shipped on the Exodus Black in one of the data samples Zelle extracted from the computers at the forge site and suggests Nessus as a good starting point for finding out more about these forges and what the Fallen know of their machinations.

The party takes some time to speak with Eva Levante about the Dawning holiday and eat. Bentley and Judge speak with one another about Ada and Bentley vents his frustration over perceived ownership of the Jotunn and the Forge information before surrendering both the weapon and the severed limb of the Cabal warrior he retrieved to the Gunsmith to see if Banshee could separate the Cabal from the other weapon. Judge offered Bentley a gift as well before stepping away to attend to personal matters. Cloak clumsily offered gifts to the full party as well, all of which were received very thankfully.

Ari gathered the party together and announced that she would be taking leave of them for a short time, admitting that she had a pursuit she needed to focus on alone. The party was supportive of her, and offered her aide should she need it. Ari remarked that she had called in a favor with an old friend to provide a "replacement" of sorts for them to group with in her absence. She then asked Judge to meet with her over tea and said her goodbyes to the rest of the fireteam.

Speaking with Judge, Ari expressed a deep desire to pursue knowledge outside the scope of the Light. Having seen the Taken and the power Calus possessed, she couldn't help but feel dissatisfied with the limitations of the Light. Judge strongly empathized with these sentiments, having already experimented with SIVA while Lightless during the Red War, and encouraged Ari to seek this train of thought as a chance to grow and understand herself better. On that sentimental note, Ari set off on her personal journey.

Ada-1 Ada chastized the party for introducing the Black Armory materials they retrieved to the VANGUARD. She expressed a dislike for Guardians being necessary to her finally retrieving her "birthright". She explained how she remembers little of her birth, but always had Henriette and Yuki around. They spoke of the Black Armory, Yuki as a reality and Henriette insistent it was only a dream. All Ada knew was that she was named Caretaker when Henriette died. She pointed to a gun mounted in her laboratory, saying that she had killed many Fallen and many Risen with that gun trying to find answers, but couldn't do it herself anymore. She took all the items the party found in the Forge from them, giving Bentley the Jotunn under the pretense that he would use it to stop the Fallen.
Eva Levante Eva blessed the party with cookies and holiday cheer, making the new Guardians feel welcome during their first Dawning celebration.
