Session 11
General Summary
The party meets briefly in the Tower to regroup with Cloak. They discuss what their next action will be, and settle on following up with a communication Judge-17 received from the former Cabal Emperor, Calus. Judge informs the party that he is affiliated with Calus, and after a brief aside with Zelle to confirm her consent, that the book he has been researching contains a term that he has only ever heard Calus say before. The party agrees to follow along, each for their own personal reasons.
The party lands in Watcher's Grave and immediately fights a small group of Vex. After dispatching them, they make their way to the Imperial landing barge and speak with Werner 99-40. Werner informs them that 4 artifacts had been stolen from Calus, and the landing crew that had been sent down already retrieved 1 and was in pursuit of a second. The party is tasked with retrieving the other two.
In an aside, Judge and Bentley speak with one another about Bentley's dreams and their ties to his powers.
The party heads first to The Tangle, where they find an artifact atop a massive cliff sealed away with an energy barrier. A non-hostile Vex with a blue photoreceptor speaks with them briefly and imposes a test upon them. The party participates in this test and retrieves the artifact.
The party then proceeds to The Cistern looking for the defector Cabal. They find some along the coastline and engage them in combat. After their fight, they choose to take a brief rest before continuing into the cave that the defectors were protecting.

Arifaris | Ari had a moment where she stepped into radiolaria and suffered injuries as a result. Unbeknownst to her, she now has a piece of the Vex inside her. This can come into play at any point in the future. |
Bentley | Bentley has an opportunity to further explore his powers further. See below for a conversation he can have with Ikora at some point. |
Cloak | Cloak is terrified of the Vex. |
Ernesto | Judge intends to speak with both Bently and Ernesto further regarding Bentley's dreams. |
Judge | Judge had a mentorship moment with Bentley, which can lead to more opportunities for him to act in a leadership role. |
Zelle | Zelle made a decision to trust the party with the contents of her book but did not reveal she was risen with it. This represents a chance for the party to discover that she was risen with the book later. |
Bentley can have this conversation with Ikora about his powers later: What did your powers arise from? Did they answer a question you asked of them? Or did they manifest while you fought for your life? You walk a path that many Voidwalkers have before you. It is unique, as all fingerprints are, but not unheard of. Imagine your Light as a tree. It started as a seed, planted within you when you were brought back to life. In order to sprout, it required nutrients from its environment and the gift of rain. Your environment was hostile, fierce, and dangerous, was it not? Your Light was born from those nutrients, and you rained upon it with every emotion in your mind until it finally bloomed into a Void just as fierce and hostile as the place it was born. But unlike other plants, the seed of Light is as alive as you or I, and it knows its place with you. It is the plant, and you are the gardener, and it knows that it needs you in order to survive. But, all it knows of life is the pain it's been fed and it hungers for more, and it looks to you for its sustenance. It wants you to let it reach its tendrils out and crush your enemies to keep taking in that pain and grow stronger, it hungers for destruction. And like a plant, if it is not watered and sunned it will shrivel and die. Has it given you dreams? Are they angry? Then it feels it is dying, and it is asking you to let it strike at your foes so that it may grow stronger. I have walked this Void before, Bentley. I have had angry dreams, suffocating beneath the weight of my own light, falling to pieces in its claws. When I was promoted to this position and I left behind my regular missions, I found myself hesitating when I was back on the battlefield. Every second I second-guessed, every moment I feared for my life, I would see them again and again in my dreams each night as my angry Light attacked me at my core. Do these sound like your dreams? I'm sure they do. And I'm sure that these dreams sound familiar to anybody that walks the Void in the way you do as well, but we are few and far between these days. So the answer is what, then? What does your Light want and why does it strike out against you? Your Light wants to grow, and it will grow through combat. Strike your enemies with your Light, and turn all that pain that gave its roots back upon them. Remember, think of it as a plant. It will grow, and when it is grown it will shade you from the sun and bear you sustaining fruit to nurture and prolong your life. But don't forget either that you are still the gardener. Don't forget that as your plant grows it can be pruned, trimmed, and shaped to fit the needs of your garden. Give it nutrients, water it, and it will become a boon. I promise you this.
Notes
- Ari took charge of the puzzle encounter and excelled, she said she felt good doing so.
- Bentley is interested in "conversing" with his Light. I told him that Actions will speak louder than words if he wants to connect with his light. Ikora is also one of the few Warlocks who still walk the same Void as Bentley, and may be able to offer him advice.
- Whisper Bentley at the end of his turns If he uses Void abilities and aggresses, say "You feel a smile in your chest". If he retreats and hides, say "Your chest tightens for a moment".
