Henriette,
I'm sorry that you aren't able to agree with me regarding this clear avenue for development. As Yuki mentioned, and as I've said before, I think it's foolish to ignore the news coming from Titan. They're planning to evacuate the New Pacific within a month, which is exactly as long as it would take to install the BrayTech equipment I've commissioned. We have the funds, we have the facilities, and between Yuki and myself we have the technical experience to pursue the Niobe project to completion.
I keep coming back to a story I've read hundreds of times, The Nibelungenlied. Perhaps you've heard of it? It's an old story from the place my family is from, but what it symbolizes to us in these times is too powerful for me to ignore. In it, the All-Father places a sword deep in the base of a tree and says "The man to pull this sword from the trunk shall receive it from me as a gift, and he will find out for himself that he never bore a better sword than this." Many try and fail, only Sigmund finally succeeds. The sword is indeed magnificent and brings Sigmund many victories. When the sword breaks, Sigmund's son and his smith, Ring, rebuild it into a blade even stronger than before; the legendary BALMUNG. With this weapon Sigurd Sigmundsson became the greatest warrior mankind had ever seen, slaying the dragon Fafnir with such ferocity he bloodied his arms to the shoulder and going on to right the transgressions against his forefathers left unreconciled for generations. Never again was a weapon of such might found, and no deeds as heroic ever accomplished by mere men.
I've worked with the Brays for years at this point. Clovis' creations are our BALMUNG, no matter your feelings towards them. We can be the Sigmund that frees them from their tree trunk and use them to beat back all the threats that close in on our way of life. And once our work is done, our children and our children's children will go on to become even greater than we could imagine. I may have scoffed before at the notion of the little green aliens coming to invade us before, but you should know by now I can also reconsider my opinion when the evidence proves me wrong. I hope that you can see this opportunity is empirically correct, the way Yuki already has.
People will need protection more than ever, Henriette. This is the next logical step.
