High Queen Sarefini fu'Norteferro (a.k.a. The Tempest)
Queen Sarefini is Hesper's mother and the first and only queen to hold claim to the High Crown. During her time ruling, she was a benevolent but stern queen. The kingdom of Pianti and the sovereign lands prospered, but war continued brewing on its borders. Sarefini ruled stubbornly and with little forethought. That pride led to her downfall: her husband's death and her ultimate drive towards full-out war with Visperus.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Even in her mental distress, Sarefini has retained her stature. She is a tall, proud woman and she carries herself as such. Her thin face, only made more gaunt by depression, is stern and long.
Facial Features
Her face is long and drawn. Sharp cheekbones jut out from her face, and her nose is hooked and stern. Her hair frames her face with small curling baby strands, and the bulk of it is often braided back in an intricate protective style. A band of freckles lays across the bridge of her nose and her cheeks.
Identifying Characteristics
A tattoo of a sea hawk gripping an arrow is printed in the dip of her collarbone. A small scar splits the bird's head.
Physical quirks
Much like her son, she talks expressively with her hands. She is much better at controlling her expression, though. She has a slight limp in her left leg.
Apparel & Accessories
She wears thick woolen robes dyed a washed-out teal and dark turquoise. Small stitching of gold adorn the fabric, but it is largely un-ornamental. Her hair is typically pulled out of her face, but on bad days, it lays loose around her shoulders.

Personal history
Sarefini was raised a princess in the Norteferro Court. She grew up under her father, King Rosele of Pianti, with the expectation that she would one day become queen of Pianti. She did at age 23, a blessing placed on her as she stood by her father's deathbed. She took her place in the High King's council and began to make a name for herself as a stern and headstrong queen looking out for her people. When High King Wentel took ill, Sarefini took it upon herself to keep the palace running smoothly. After the High King's passing, this action played in her favor at the Moot of Lords. She was named the successor to the High Crown and was named the first High Queen.
Two year later, she gave birth to Crown Prince Hesper. During Hesper's childhood, she rarely left the castle, preferring to stay and raise her son. Still, she kept a firm hand on the land's politics, perhaps a bit too tightly. Conflicts which had just been border strife and petty battles broke out into a half-hearted war with Visperus at the head. The war raged on for another nine years, only tempered by Sarefini's distant, distracted management. In 136 REA, Sarefini's husband was struck down in the midst of battle. Word spread quickly, and the queen's iron fist only tightened. The war exploded in the heart of the sovereign lands, appearing wherever a Visperus cell made itself known.
Sexuality
After she met her husband, Sarefini never strayed from her love of him. However, in her teenage years, she was known to bed down with both men and women.
Mental Trauma
Sarefini took the news of her husband's death poorly. She is sometimes stricken by bouts of depression that leave her bedridden for days on end.
Morality & Philosophy
Although she wanted to help her people more than anything, Sarefini often ruled with a stern hand. She believed that for things to work out right, she always had to be in control. Such a suffocating philosophy led to war and her image being tarnished in her people's minds. She has tempered her public image a little since then, using Visperus as a scapegoat to elevate herself.

Before, she was driven by the needs of her people. Then, her focus fell to caring for the needs of her son. Now, all she wants is her husband returned from The Gray.

Her only remaining living family is her son, Hesper. While he was growing up, she was fiercely protective of him. Nowadays, she is more focused on running her empire than acknowledging Hesper's existence.
