Hesper

The Golden Prince

Crown Prince Hesperidan fu'Norteferro

Hesper is the Crown Prince of the sovereign lands, next in line for the throne. He's lived his entire life being told he is special because of the golden blood running through his veins, but he's never been certain if his heritage brings him fortune or anything but disaster.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Hesper has always been rather willowy for his height, but his late teen years added a little strength to his slender frame. He still remains wiry, often granting him comparison to a snake or a tree sapling.

Body Features

He has medium-dark skin, peppered generously with freckles. His hands are long and thin, following design with the rest of his form.

Facial Features

He bears a long face with strong cheekbones and a high-bridged nose. His dark eyes are framed by long lashes, and a splash of freckles lays across his cheeks.

Identifying Characteristics

He has small silver scars on his hands and legs, mostly due to outdoor shenanigans as a child. A long silver etching on his abdomen bears memory of an attempt on his life as a child. On his shoulder he has a tattoo of a sea hawk gripping an arrow: his family's crest.

Physical quirks

Hesper tends to talk with his hands, and his formal societal training has done nothing for his inability to control his expression. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and it is apparent to everyone.

Apparel & Accessories

He tends to wear flowing cotton robes, as is the fashion for nobles and royalty in Norteferro. The robes are typically white in color, although on court days, he wears a band of red like a sash around his shoulder and waist as a symbol of his royal house and stature.   On occasion, he will adorn his arms with golden bangles and charms, although this is typically for impression during courtly functions.   On days where no one will see him in the palace courtyards outside of the staff and guards, he lounges in a dull smock that reaches his knees. He is typically free from accessories on these relaxed days save for a ribbon or cord to tie back his hair.

Specialized Equipment

A thin gold circlet decorated with small gemstones that marks him as both the future leader to Pianti and the entire sovereign lands.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born beneath the Dark Sun, Hesper had been told since birth that his coming brought omens. Whether his golden blood brought good omens or bad omens was something the fates had yet to reveal. For what it was worth, he let it affect his childhood little. He made mischief and mistakes as readily as any other child. War crept along his homeland's borders, but he never gave it a passing thought beyond the wounded and tight-faced soldiers that traipsed through his mother's halls.

Gender Identity

Much like his sexuality, Hesper began wondering in his middle teens. Something has always not sat quite right with him, but he's never been able to give it much thought.

Sexuality

Hesper began experimenting with his sexuality in his middle teens, sneaking out of the palace to cavort with the common folk in Norteferro. Despite it all, he's never really put a name to it.

Education

Being crown prince, Hesper received the best education Pianti had to offer. He was raised to be literate, socially conscious, and well versed in sciences, history, maths, and magic. While he also received formal sword training, it was never something he excelled in. He knows how to ride a horse and hunt, as any proper prince should, but he much prefers his feet be on solid ground.

Mental Trauma

Despite being born in a port city, he gets horribly seasick on any boat and any body of water.

Morality & Philosophy

Hesper does his best to tide the flood of war plaguing the land, mostly out of naivety and dislike of bloodshed rather than in search of actual peace. Even with the weight of the kingdom and sovereignty falling on him, he retains his boyish nature. He is still curious and infinitely amused by the small things.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

He wants peace for his home, perhaps for the selfish reasons of getting his old life back to normal rather than the good of everyone.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

He is surprisingly good with horses, despite the fact that he is not all that fond of riding them. Hesper is also quite adept at talking his way out of sticky situations thanks to his court training.   He cannot sword fight properly to save his life, or anyone's life for that matter.

Likes & Dislikes

He likes the palace gardens and everything that comes with it: the flowers, the dirt, the puddles, the rain, the bugs, the stones, and the overturned logs. By proxy, he also likes the wilderness as a whole, but he favors the idealistic parts of it and tends to ignore the dangerous parts.   He has a strong dislike of boats and the open sea. He gets wildly seasick and can barely stand even stepping foot on the docks.

Virtues & Personality perks

Hesper is optimistic and frustratingly determined when he sets his mind to things. He tries to see the light in any situation, and despite his worldly situations and occasional brushes with death, he still retains a rather innocent and naive outlook on life and the world.

Vices & Personality flaws

His optimism can lead to idealism and sheer refusal to accept that things can be bad. It takes him time to accept things, and his determination often leads to stubbornness and bullheadedness. He tries to put himself out there as a wise and knowledgeable king, but he is too keen and has a tendency to overstep his bounds and make a bigger fool of himself than he would have in just admitting ignorance. He sometimes fails to see things as they really are for want of something better.

Personality Quirks

He fidgets when he is worried, and fidgeting turns to pacing when the worry deepens to anxiety.   He has a habit of saying whatever comes to his mind, often giving offhand comments about things that are irrelevant. He also tends to wear his expressions loosely; he pulls faces at discussions and even his own thoughts.

Hygiene

Since he was a kid, Hesper has been fond of running amok in the palace gardens and getting covered in mud and dirt. While the habit has been curbed as he has gotten older, which has led to his white robes remaining white, he still indulges in puttering in the dirt on his quieter days. He usually washes himself down well afterwards, but he still has rims of dirt beneath his nails sometimes.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Hesper has contacts with representatives and nobility from every State of the sovereign lands, although he doesn't consider than anything more than political relations. He holds no friendship or kinship to them, and dealing with them is a mere formality. Outside of his royal duties, he holds little to no ties with outside organizations.   Growing up, he had a few friends among lesser nobles and the common folk, with whom he would escape the palace grounds and gallivant around the city, but his crowning put distance between them.

Family Ties

His father, a Thesselian man, died in battle and left him alone with his shattered mother. His mother, once quietly loving and motherly, grew more withdrawn from her son and more focused on the war that had taken her husband.   There are quiet whispers of an older sister his parents once birthed, along with old tapestries of a hooded girl in the palace corridors, but little is ever said of her. Any time he asked about her, he was met with silence or tearful eyes.

Mannerisms

He was brought up to speak properly, with clearly-enunciated words. Sometimes, his speech is often prose-like, although if he catches himself speaking like that in less than noble company, he becomes embarrassed and tries to speak more freely.

Wealth & Financial state

He is in line to control the wealth of Pianti and negotiate the trade economy for much of the sovereign lands. This has bequeathed upon him a substantial bit of wealth, but coming from an upbringing of wealth already, it means little to him. Most of his personal belongings have all been bought for him, and he is unused to handling his own money. It is a rare occasion when he ventures into the market square with intent to purchase something himself.
