Marian (Mar-re-ahn)
The Mother
Marian is a Prime Deity and the goddess of Community, Humans, and Innovation.
Marian, often referred to as "The Mother," is a benevolent goddess and creator of humans. While the order of the Prime Deities creation is uncertain, and ultimately irrelevant, Marian is believed to be one of the older ones. Humans are one of the ancient races of Fioré, and Marian's temperament is said to be similar to The Creator. Humans have an unusual affinity for spreading from one side of the globe to the other, and as such have developed into the most multifaceted ancestry, with cultures and alignment varying wildly from one human to the next. Despite this, Marian cares for each, and much like when the Creator refused to take sides when its children fought, Marian refuses to pick sides when humans war against each other. Some humans see this as her abandoning them in their time of need and turn from her, even cursing her name, but Marian still cares for and protects them. Much like the epitomal "mother's love," Marian does not require her children to love her, for her to love them.
Marian's true form is unknown to mortals, as reports are widely inconsistent. All who have gazed upon her describe her differently, but always as "strangely familiar," like how they would imagine a younger version of their grandmother or someone comforting. The two agreed upon consistencies is that she always appears as a healthy-looking middle-aged woman and she has deep amber eyes that seem to see through you without judgement. That, and a feeling of comfort and peace.
Many priests of Marian specialize in healing, and Marian instructs them to not discriminate in their healing of others. To refuse healing someone in need is a blasphemy against Marian, even if that someone is a mortal enemy. This offers her chosen some additional protection in times of war, as most human armies would never desecrate her temples or harm her servants.

The two goddesses conferred with each other upon making their respective ancestries and drew inspiration from each other. Their friendship is one of the reasons that humans and halflings have a history of cooperation and shared community. Halflings have a strong appreciation for growing things, especially edible ones, and are quick to share their discoveries with humans. In return, humans have always been quick to raise arms and defend their more pacifistic friends should the need arise.
