Hunter Technique Spell in Ferracora | World Anvil

Hunter Technique

The base of a hunter's technique is how connected the user is with the earth (terra dominant trait) without using manna as an energy source. The fundamental starts by standing on the ground as the base of flows, directed to the center of the body ("Instinct"), redistributed to the peripheral ("Senses") then redirected to the surrounding.

Instinct

The basic skill of the arts, by constantly learning and experiencing the surrounding, being grateful, and meditating upon life and death. The hunter's hand starts with a pray (folded hand), appreciating the earth for everything it gave. At the same time, the hunter feels the flow of the world, which is given as a "token of appreciation" from the world for the prayer. Effect: gives basic surrounding detail, such as wind, temperature, movement, etc.

Senses

Sonor

From the praying hand, the hunter releases the hands and makes a clap (doesn't always need a hand clap, any two objects hitting can be used). The sound it produces will spread in a radius, and any object hit by the sound will be heard by the hunter, thus being trackable.

Boar's Stench

The hunter releases the praying hand and crouches to the earth then smells two things: movement/position and the prey's emotions. The name come from how pigs and boars are commendable for their smelling and tracking of underground veggies and truffles.

Eagle's Eye

The hunter releases the hand during deep breathing. While inhaling and holding your breath, the time becomes slower, and the eyes are focused on the target, reflexes are increased accordingly to the vision, and all small/strange movements and details around the target are well perceived. All ranged weapon hit chances are increased.

Stout Stand

The hunter releases the hand while changing their leg positioning (depending on condition and terrain). Using the vibration (musculoskeletal or skin conduction), the hunter could feel any incoming movement (with details) or attacks while standing still, which is effectively useful in combat.

Bell Tongue

The hunter releases the hand, then largely open his/her mouth and protrudes the tongue (looks like a bell chime). The tongue becomes very sensitive that even a bit of air can trigger its "tasting" capability, which is very useful for inspecting poison/venom (including gases) and easier for memorizing edibles or tastes.

Hunting Ground

By combining all five basic senses, the hunter is capable of creating a large zone where he/she is capable of sensing nonstop while in the zone. The hunter starts by standing, closing their eyes, praying hand, then releasing. While inhaling, make a clap, then open the hand after the clap, and open the mouth a little (no tongue protrusion) and the eyes while exhaling through the mouth.

Discovery

Legend said the technique was based on how the first hunter learned to hunt at his/her death's door. When the hunter fell due to starvation while lost in the forest, the hunter never felt much closer to the earth. Remembering his life as the earth remembers, the hunter's life flashed before his/her eyes as if he/she lived all their lives, the lives of all creatures that walk the earth, as the lives born on earth, one day would be returned to the earth. In his/her starvation, he lied down and sensed the earth as well as its vibration. He/she heard creatures walking bypass him, and the hunter opened his/her eyes to see the majestic creature, a deer that was grazing.  The deer stood still and saw the hunter while the hunter looked into its eyes, remembering how such a creature lived. Grazing, eating the grass, growing, giving birth, and then... killed by other creatures, ending its cycle to a new one. The hunter stood up, grabbed a sharp branch, got closer, and smelt two things: fear and contempt. Fear of dying, is it the hunter or the prey? Contempt, is it the hunger or the cycle? The deer just stood still until blood was oozing from its chest, bleeding and falling gracefully. The hunter quickly drank its blood, making sure there was no waste. As his/her tongue contacted the blood, all the memories of the deer's life flashed inside his/her mind, completing the cycle. Thus all connected, as the cycle continued, the hunter and the prey, life and death, all is one link, as the earth remembered.
