Hatine
One of the Seven Nations surrounding the Rakloro Sea in Rakia.
Geography
Surroundings & Relationships
To the west and north of Hatine is the Veric Ocean. To the south lies Iglonnia. The southeastern border is the shore of the Rakloro Sea, while the neighboring kingdom Nysyb lies to the east.Regions & Communities
The western and northern borders of Hatine are lined by the Varothum Shield mountain range, which are somewhat revered for their protective influence. The Veric Ocean has a mean reputation, and deserves it in the region near Hatine; violent storms are common off the western coast, and are only prevented from tearing the country apart by the mountain range. The southern border of Hatine is lined by a shoot-off mountain range from the Varothum Shield, called the Ustuan Chain. These mountains are tall and craggy, if not as much so as the Varothum Shield, and travel through them is somewhat difficult. The foothills of the Ustuan Chain are also a forested region. The eastern border with Nysyb is defined by the sizable River Burray. Slightly north of center of the country is the crytalline-appearing Glasslake. The River Arn flows out of the western mountains, through the Glasslake, and as a tributary into the River Burray.Big Cities
The seat of Hatine's monarchy is Hatine City, on the southern shore of Glasslake. The nation once had a separate name from the city, Hatoldothin, but it fell out of favor nearly two hundred years ago. At the head of the Ustuan Chain, in the midst of craggy mountains, is Ustuntt, ancient ancestral capital of the dwarves (although arguably less of a racial cultural center today than Kartekus in Timir). Ustuntt has the reputation of a very greedy place, lustful of all mined metals. At the tail end of the Ustuan Chain, in the south where it meets the Rakloro Sea, is Zaravis, effectively a pirate city, built into fjords and sea-caves. Both Ustuntt and Zaravis pay lip-service fealty to Hatine, pay taxes to the king (likely not as much as they're supposed to), and claim the protection of Hatine against other nations in return; but they are largely renegade communities that are self-governed and not afraid to act in their own interests.Other Cities
Ranperry lies at the mouth of the Arn where it flows into the Burray. Oldhat is located on the Rakloro coast, pretty far south but not as far as Zaravis.
