Marriage customs

Parora
Parorans have a system of polyandry (one woman + multiple men). A woman can legally have up to seven husbands, though it’s far more common for her to have only two or three. Upper class women tend to have more husbands. The Queen may have as many as she likes though only one is the official consort.

Initiating or arranging a marriage is usually a elder's role, and not a feminine role. Marriages usually include symbolic protests from kin and 4 days of seclusion beforehand.

  Ciheim
Ciheians practice polygyny (one man + multiple women). There’s no set limit on how many women a man may marry, but he must be capable of providing for his household. As such, certain classes and professions are generally restricted in the number of spouses. The King is the only one not permitted to have multiple wives under any circumstances as it tends to complicate the line of succession. Marriage is based on common affection and considered sacred.

Initiating or arranging a marriage is usually a father's role. Most commonly when a man seeks to marry, his father approaches the woman’s family. Sometimes the woman’s father approaches a prospective groom. In cases where there’s no father in the picture the mother may step in. Marriages usually include auspicious date selection, but never gift-giving between families.

  Effervuansland
Effervanders are unique in that they strictly practice monogamy. Their marriages are based on love and involve a transfer of wealth.

  Thauland
Thaulanders practice a form of polygyny (one man + multiple women). Marriage is arranged at birth and between up to 3 people. Initiating or arranging these matches is usually the groom’s father's role. Many believe that this practice is outdated. It’s largely practiced by the upper class. The royal family abstains from it in favour of potential alliance marriages.

Marriages usually include legal paperwork signing.

  Becina
Becinians generally practice monogamy but polygyny (one man + multiple women) is common. Marriage is done to gain status. Marriage rites are often quite rowdy.
