Basic Information

Anatomy

This fungus has a gelatinous purple body with a bumpy, multi-lobed surface. When wet its outer surface becomes greasy and slimy to the touch. It shrivels up into a thin, hard film when dry. When re-exposed to moisture it will resume its original state.

Growth Rate & Stages

These fungi form during wet periods throughout the year, growing on dead trees. If the correct conditions are met, it takes a matter of hours for it to break through the bark of its host tree. At it's largest it can grow up to 7.5 cm (3.0 in) broad and 2.5 to 5.0 cm (1.0 to 2.0 in) high. The fruit body itself is rounded and lobed with a somewhat brain-like appearance.

Biological Cycle

They're capable of alternating between sexual and asexual reproduction.
