Fjin's Rest
"It was my father who rid these hills of the Imperial watchdogs; it was I who built these walls around those in need of succor; and it will be my son, Spark willing, who carries on this legacy."Located at the base of the Khernic Foothills in northern Wrotham, the town of Fjin's Rest began as little more than the holiday retreat of the noble Fjin family. Over time, entrepreneurial spirits set up shop around the estate to take advantage of the many diplomats and petitioners who came to call upon the province's ealdor. Storefronts and workshops sprung up outside the manor walls, and homes and farmland quickly followed, making Fjin's Rest into what it is today: a small yet bustling village of trade and tourism.--Elim Fjin, 591 IK
Government
While the rest of Wrotham has adopted a form of electoral governance, Fjin's Rest has remained a semi-feudal settlement due to its history. The estate and its surrounding lands lawfully belong to the Fjin family, but citizens may have homes and operate businesses on these lands in exchange for a tax or homage.Tax Collection. Every tax cycle, the responsibility of collecting dues from the tenants of Fjin's Rest is assigned randomly to a different citizen to remove blame and hard feelings from a single person and lessen the chances of an individual abusing that position.
A reeve, appointed by the head of the Fjin family, oversees the town during the ealdor’s absence.
Geography
Fjin’s Rest is located in north-central Khern County, 67 miles from Khern ridge and 246 miles from Wroth, the capital of Wrotham. At last count, the township of Fjin’s Rest had a total area of 1.33 square miles, including the town proper and surrounding farmland. The Parava Hot Spring runs along the town’s western border and merges with the Kalt River to its south. The lands surrounding Fjin’s Rest are a mix of woodlands and foothills. Orchards and farms have been cultivated in areas with sufficient space. Ruins of pre-era buildings were discovered shortly after the town was established and have since been incorporated into modern structures such as the Frozen Cairn Inn and the Shrine of Ibaas.Trade and Tourism
Much of the town's economy is centered around tourism, relying heavily on the Fjin estate and nearby hot spring to draw in travelers. Being the last comfortable stop on the road to Uluuya and the Greywater, travelers often take advantage of the local inn, and those with a passion for history have the opportunity to visit the pre-era shrine on the town's outskirts. In addition to those businesses focused on tourism, Fjin's Rest has several that cater to its citizens: a clinic, lumber mill, grocer, and even an open market for independent producers to sell their goods.Points of Interest
