Fen Floating in Aph'Raffyyr.

Like all worlds, Fen is a world living itself. Humans crown Kings and Sultans and Priests and Jarls to rule over them for the sake of Order, though still the majority of their population wallows through life, thinking themselves separate from this world which mothered them. They build wonders and write epics and so think they are the pinnacle lifeform of this world, that everything that happened before them happened so Humans could Be.

Yet they have no idea the great minds of this world living within the soil, binding tree and shrub and stump to one another so that plant and fungal synergy can, through their shared power, shape the conditions in which Fen's life flourishes. Humanity has largely forgotten the fruiting bodies which nourished them when their starving distant ancestors left their shrinking jungles for growing hot plains. This partnership between proto-hominid and mind-melding fungal fruit was one of the foremost factors behind the rapid expansion of these apes' brains.

The Hominid + Psilocybe symbiosis is far from the first time Fen uplifted one of its creations from intelligent sentient animal to full fledged Sophont. Around the same time that proto-man was rummaging through bovine droppings for Sacred Mushrooms on the continent of Staylos, a similar partnership was occurring across the sea, on the continent of Fennoth. On Fennoth, a clade of lemuroids were gorging on lotus flowers in mangrove jungles, a psychoactive far more potent and arcane than even the mystic and mighty Psilocybes. These Elmurids, as they were called, began rapidly evolving their specieal languages into linguistic ones. In the blink of an eye on a scale of evolutionary time, these beings went from lounging, lazy, flower-eating lemurs to reality-bending Truthmakers whose entire civilization operated as a giant University.

But Hominid or Elmurid, it makes no matter, as both are just two means through which Fen experiences Herself, and there are far, far more forms through which She does so than just Peopling Primates.
