Personal history
As a youth, Zhang was easily swayed, moving from one whim to another. At puberty, he began seeing visions and they guided him to become a diplomat between his village and the Kami. At first, he was in it for the glory, seeing himself as a powerful monk who could sway the whims of the Kami. But eventually, the Kami blessed him with a wife and less than a year later, they had a son together.
Education
He trained with the local monastic order for most of his early life.

He convinced the river Kami to divert its course when flooding threatened to destroy his village.
