Avan

Avan is a holiday celebrated in the Singing Wood that takes place on the summer solstice. This day is a celebration of the arts and human (or in this case, elven) achievement. Contests, performances and tourneys of all kinds take place. A great emphasis is placed on encouraging children to appreciate and take part in the arts.
Food served on Avan is made to be visually and flavorfully splendid, often with magic effects. Artisans will open their doors to the public to show off their skill and take on apprentices from the youth.
The royal family hosts a tournament of honor that includes jousting, archery and athletic competitions such as tests of strength and races. Poetry recitals, singing and theatre performances are also customary, with great honor and patronage from the royal family bestowed on those judged best in any competition.
