Dame Wilhelm Rottborne (a.k.a. WIlhelm Naschtergale)

WIlhelm Naschtergale is a famous pianist in West Tolona. His original name and title were Dame Wilhelm Rottborne, but he dropped the noble titles and privileges in order to build a life on his own merits and skills.
Wilhelm is currently living with his partner Ivan Volkov and their five children. He performs with orchestras all over the world, but enjoys a particularly close relationship with the National Orchestra of West Tolona (NOWT). It has become something of a tradition that he will play in their season finale every year (except 2012, when one of Wilhelm's children got seriously injured in an accident and he had to cancel with two days notice).
Although Wilhelm is exceptionally dedicated to his family life at home, his relationship with the rest of his family is much more distant. He was never close to his father, and his mother's family is not exactly the nicest family around. He makes a point of being present in his children's life mostly as a contrast to the way he was brought up.

Personal history

Wilhelm's father was Mattias Naschtergale, a man originally from Adesten. He moved to West Tolona to study piano, but the relocation proved a strain on Mattias’s finances, and he had to teach beginner students in order to pay his bills.
One such beginner student was Rohesia Rottborne, a woman from the old nobility who was the same age as him. She was interested in pursuing new hobbies after graduating school (she did not need to work for a living, and she did not plan to), and learning the piano fit her idea of an interesting, yet useless, skill. After a few months of lessons, however, Rohesia became impressed with Mattias’s talent and proposed that he helped her with her Virility Test by fathering her child. Rohesia promised Mattias that he and the child would be lavishly compensated for this, so Mattias agreed.
Mattias and his son Wilhelm gained a noble title, and Rohesia’s family supported Mattias through the rest of his university degrees. Rohesia gave up the piano when she married Nuno Montanha and started her own family. Wilhelm was brought up as part of the Rottborne household, but once he graduated school he decided to make his own name and not rely on the famiy’s influence. He became a pianist like his father, took on the Naschtergale name, and moved to his own little house in the suburb of Oviexo.
Wilhelm tried to prevent his mother’s family from helping him move to Oviexo, but Rohesia was adamant that her son would not live in poor rented accommodation. She bought him the lower flat of a two-house development and sent her son an allowance to help with his expenses. Wilhelm appreciated the initial help, but since all he wanted was to learn to live on his own, he put his mother’s money on a savings account and tried to survive on his own.
Then, a man called Ivan Volkov moved to the flat above his, and his life took on a new, interesting turn…
Namely, Wilhelm and Ivan fell in love and decided to live together. Wilhelm used his mother's money to buy the flat Ivan was renting and turn it into a single house. All the extra space came in handy with five children running and screaming around the house.
