Atlas-class Defense Platform
The Atlas is a heavy weapons platform designed and manufactured by the Feather Corps for planetary defense.
Although the Atlas's primary role is to serve as an anchor in a planetary defensive battery, it spends the vast majority of its operational lifespan as a training facility, recreation center, and temporary flophouse for embarked servicemen. Due to the nature of the Feather Corps' defensive doctrine, a sizable fleet of cruisers, carriers, and even battleships will loiter within the vicinity of an Atlas station. This results in vessels taking turns to dock with the station and allowing crewmen and officers to disembark for "day trips" in an effort to minimize the effects of the prolonged monotony inherent in orbital defense. To accommodate these ventures, Atlas stations sport an expansive gallery of civilian-owned shops, boutiques, and even a unique recreation facility.
Since these defense platforms are typically deployed in the vicinity of high-value orbital assets like space ports or colonial clusters, they also receive many civilian transports as well. Over time, the quality of amenities tend to increase, attracting more customers and soon becoming a not-insignificant source of income the respective branch command can spend without the approval of The Wardroom. As a result, each branch of the Feather Corps will fight amongst each other for a chance to acquire an additional Atlas station when one can be constructed.
