Hedraphoton

A Hedraphoton is a storage device used by Magi to store advanced magical constructs. These constructs are often complex and possess multiple layers of coding, resulting in an ultimate piece of crafted magic. The Hedraphoton is standard equipment for academic magi and can be accessed anytime for further study or deployment. It is a symbol of knowledge, and The Angel Corinus, the angel of knowledge, is often depicted holding one.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Central Quartz Crystal
  • Acts as the core power source and connectivity hub for the entire device. It powers the user interface (UI) and the genetic security locks, enabling seamless interaction and manipulation of the stored aetheric constructs.
  • The central crystal is intricately linked to the device's polyhedral points, ensuring that the Magi can access the UI on the hedraphoton from any angle or position. This design allows for the ergonomic and intuitive use characteristic of Magi technology.

Quartz Lining
  • The quartz lining within each compartment serves to capture and indefinitely store the aetheric energy of the constructs. Quartz is chosen for its unique properties of storing aether without any degradation over time.
  • When a construct is created and stored in a compartment, the quartz lining absorbs the aetheric energy, preserving the constructs's integrity and allowing for future retrieval, deployment, and reuse without loss of quality.

Bismuth Exterior
  • Provides physical protection and magical isolation for the device. The bismuth shell prevents external damage and aetheric leakage between compartments, ensuring that each construct remains secure and unaffected by external influences.
  • The non-conductive properties of bismuth create an effective barrier that isolates the internal quartz-lined compartments from each other and the outside environment, maintaining the device's integrity and the purity of the stored aetheric constructs.

Genetic Security Locks
  • Ensures that access to the hedraphoton and its contents is exclusively limited to Magi, with the initial setup allowing for personalisation to an individual's genetic signature.
  • Utilising advanced biometric technology, these locks interact with the Magi's unique genetic markers to grant or deny access, providing a high level of security and preventing unauthorised use.

User Interface (UI) with Heads-Up Display (HUD)
  • Offers an interactive platform through which Magi can manage the hedraphoton's contents, including detailed information about stored constructs, creator identities, and access histories.
  • Powered by the central quartz crystal, this blue, interactive HUD is visible only to Magi and provides an ergonomic interface for accessing and organising the device's functions and stored content.

Indicator System
  • Aids in the organisation and retrieval of stored constructs by illuminating the numbers on the compartments that are currently in use.
  • The illuminated numbering system acts as a visual guide, helping users quickly identify which compartments contain stored constructs and streamline the process of accessing specific content.

Manufacturing process

Quartz

Slaves in Coldstream, Westhaven, are responsible for sourcing and processing both high-grade and low-grade quartz. The high-grade quartz stores Aether, while the low-grade quartz powers the device. Both types of quartz undergo similar initial processing steps, including extraction, refinement, and shaping to meet requirements for use in the hedraphoton.

Bismuth

Bismuth, essential for crafting the hedraphoton's shell, is mined and refined in Blackburn Heath, Rokeshire. The entire process, from extraction to the final refinement stages, including crushing, grinding, flotation, and electrolytic refining to achieve the desired purity, is carried out by slave labour.

Assembly Process

The Scientific Instruments Guild owns a factory in Tirril, Burrolk where hedraphotons are assembled. The process heavily relies on automated machinery for precision assembly, with enslaved workers playing a crucial role in operating and maintaining the machinery under the guild's oversight.

During the assembly, the bismuth shell is integrated with the prepared quartz components to meet the device's design specifications. The workers ensure the correct placement of high and low-grade quartz in their respective parts of the device.

Calibration and Quality Assurance

Hedraphotons are calibrated after assembly to ensure proper functionality. The process checks that high-grade quartz stores aether effectively and low-grade quartz powers the device. The final quality check is conducted by a Magi from the Scientific Instruments Guild to verify that each hedraphoton meets stringent standards for reliability and functionality.

Significance

The hedraphoton symbolises knowledge and progress, often associated with The Angel Corinus, the angel of knowledge. It represents the pursuit of understanding and the advancement of magical technology, showcasing the ingenuity and sophistication of the Magi.

The hedraphoton is an essential tool for academic Magi, acting as a portable library and laboratory. It allows them to store, study, and manipulate complex magical constructs, facilitating the continuous development of their craft and the expansion of their aetheric knowledge.

The widespread use of hedraphotons among Magi reinforces the societal value placed on intelligence, innovation, and the hierarchical structure of their community. It highlights the role of the Magi as the dominant intellectual force in Middengeard, making it a cultural icon.

Hedraphotons are central to the technological ecosystem of the Magi, as they store advanced aetheric constructs with multiple layers of coding. They enable creating and utilising magi applications that power society, making them a technological keystone.
