Simbi-Aleksann Lafrans

Caller of the Dead

Roleplayer: Jimjam#7671   Master: None

Class Skills

Territory Creation (Rank C)
The ability to create an area advantageous of oneself as a Magus. Houngan's received temples whereupon their title is bestowed. Naturally, A-Rank would be achieved. However, due to the shift in cultural spheres whereupon "Sel" is summoned, outside of Africa, the rank is "C" limiting him to a workshop.
Item Construction (Rank C)
The ability to create and manufacture magical tools and items. At C-Rank most everyday items can be procured through components. As for Sèl, he typically manufacturers items, potions, and necessary powders for his rituals or appeasing spirits.
Divinity False (Rank ?)
A sort of phantom skill that exists within the Saint Graph and only becomes apparent during "possession", with the rank rising and varying upon the spirit that is called upon. It serves no true importance until possession takes place. It's quite the trait among Houngen's and Mambo's.

Personal Skills

Vodun (Rank A)
African magecraft. It is primarily composed of Haitian Vodou with elements of its other forms sometimes being pulled upon. Embracing deep practices into both that of a Houngan and Bokor -- it’s capabilities as a thaumaturgical system / world faith are strong and its theories vast; from zombies, to communicating with spirits, channeling the divines and more, it is certainly a lovely faith.
Evil Gaze of Mojo (Rank B)
Mystic Eyes that were passed down unto Sel by his mentor. They allow one to see spirits of the living and non-living and to gauge “mojo” in the karmic sense by seeing distinct colours. If some were of good intent, they would show blue-- if of ill, deception, or other facilities, red. His mentor often made the joke of being a form of “counselor” who could intercept lies and deceit and tell immediate truth. One could only wonder why?
Houngan Duty (Rank B)
Sel’s resolve having been manifested as a skill. It is a sign he will never waver in his duties or service of another he is sworn to; even should death come over him, it was said Sel would serve his Lord no matter what condition. Acts as a form “Mental Resistance”, B-Rank application.

Personality

Of origins far off, Sèl lacks the normal traits of those from his homeland and instead embraces more tribalism than all else. With that, and his profession in the mix, he walks a line that not many could say they have done the same.   A man of noble words and actions that follow into the same vein, he who practices evil (black magic) and good (voodoo) in one at the same time to achieve a perfect balance and an open-mind on the world. Down to earth and visioning a perspective beyond that of a simple every-day village folk. It is perhaps due to his knowing of not truly belonging to a tribe that he had been in such a way.   Despite that, he sticks to his duties and makes it a personal goal to guide those who he serves, down a proper path-- a balance of good and evil mixing within their own personal desires. Though not all can be saved (conformed) to that way.   Just as he is noble, he is loyal and up-front and will not attempt to hide his feelings from his Lord (Master) in hopes they might, too, achieve a stage of sight (enlightenment / clarity) upon the world and its doings.   As open-minded as he might be... There are definitely things that he has come to despise of the world to this day. Too see Bokor's (Sorcerers) of the practice that once was pure enslave others for self-gain... It surely will cause him to slay many to appease his rightful Lord.

Backstory

The lone survivor of a shipwreck along the shores of Africa whilst still a baby, found within the clutches of a dying mother and deceased father; rescued from the wreckage at the behest of Houngan's investigating and determining the cause of the incident(s) that surrounded the shores. It was a ship from France that had got caught within the wrath of the sea, and thereby, destroyed most on board had it not been for the intervention of a Loa who decided to save life meant to be yet untouched.   The baby, but a few years old, estimated three, had been brought on as their own within the tribe, the years edging on the turning-point of turning to the next century, the end of the 17th century and moving onto the 18th where the art of Vodun had begun to be dabbled in; a practice coming to light that originated in the bellows of the earth.   He was brought about into a large scale village, a sort of "tribe" that had managed to slip narrowly under the grasp of slavery; avoiding it on some accounts of what was believed the "Lao Intervenining and protecting the people". Of course, that was just the belief of the people. Whether it was true or not was uncertain.   No matter that, the baby grew into a child, who's skin had begun to shift and tan under the weathering sun and being exposed to the elements that weathered upon the skin with age; learning of the arts of his new ancestors and beliefs that existed but only came to surface in practice there-so recently -- the popularity of a thaumaturgical system coming to -- establishing itself fully into the world, a full and proper foundation.   Raised in the conditions of weathering sun and risk thereof slavery, the day was spent with silent work, and the night, training under his new mentor, learning the spiritual arts and a form of “Magecraft” as one might call -- discovering the abilities vested into him as a Magus -- as it would turn to be, his parents merely had been just that, Magus' from a bloodline that dated back a noteable amount of generations, but had yet to procure anything great within their research or came to be that "notable" to the world.   It was but a long and tedious series of years that passed-- his skin grew darker, his hair longer, body slightly painted in markings-- before his mentor had allowed him to trail under becoming a proper priest, a Houngan like himself. And should he succeed, his eyes would be passed down unto his pupil whilst his own transferred to his mentor, "letting the young view through the eyes of the experienced and the old regaining eyes of naivety”. They were Mystic Eyes that the priest had been born with, and due to a deep spiritual connection, the transfer was completed-- he was more than honoured to bear his mentor as a part of him.   No less, devoted to the faith and culture he was raised within, "Sèl" as he was called by the folk, advanced to being that of a Houngan, a Voodoo priest and ascertained a temple.   In his years, though young, he grew with great experience thanks to his mentor-- channeling various Lao, seeing out rituals and burials and becoming a voice for one of the major Lao, Baron Samedi as he worked closer to the concept of corpses, death and life, having been spiritually possessed and channelled his lordship into his body to punish those who defiled graves or call back a restless spirit that rose away from his clutches.   As time came, he dabbled into black magic, not for evil, but for the sake of balance -- finding his mentor's words comforting -- “one must balance their spirit, evil and good must mix interchangeably to foster a proper and strong spirit”. And thus he did.   At some point during his young days, roughly a few years after of becoming a Houngan, it was said he ventured alongside Black Caesar, the pirate and joined the crew of Edward Teach in the hopes of not only spreading the faith of Vodun but to see the world and open his mind to the world as a whole that had been discovered thus far. Even if he did not condone piracy, he walked a line to guide their souls to matter what, a loyalty to his captains that lasted a short period of years before they ultimately met their end and left Sèl upon the American continent-- beginning to plant the seeds of Vodun with his people that existed upon the continent. Having dodged slavery and captors on common occasion in the process.   He had remained there in the Americas for some time, reaching old age and spreading his practices before returning home on a vessel that had been on a one way voyage.   When he had returned, it was the Haitian revolution-- the promptly and proper reason he returned to guide his people. His body grew weak, but his mind remained strong.   He died before the revolution had ended, having turned to be one of the oldest their people had known — likely as a result of one being devout to faith — and extendings one life from practices. Ah, how he did what he could to make his mentor proud; even recreating one of his most popular spells and mastering the function of his Mystic Eyes. Hmph...   He was certainly remembered for being a foreigner who became one with Haitian people.

Noble Phantasm(s)

Sekou Soti Nan Chenn • Lage Maladi
Rank: B Classification: Anti-Unit / Anti-Army Range: 10~80 Maximum Number of Targets: 100   A Greater Ritual materialized as a Noble Phantasm; a reproduction of a spell he observed from his mentor.   It was designed to “release the shackles of the bound”, to cure sickness, impairment, loss of judgement and more, all the while healing the soul and repairing the spirit.   As a normal spell, it increase one’s health overtime and bring clarity to their life; but when used as a Noble Phantasm, it’s effects are near instantaneous -- the great work of Sel to perfect his Mentor’s Spell -- to aid those truly in need as homage and its effects are more prevalent in the truest form of “release shackles” from the soul, mind, spirit, and body.
Mèt Mwen Ap Vini • My Dear Baron Samedi
Rank: B Classification: Possession Range: 1 Maximum Number of Targets: 1   "My Lord Shalt Come",   "My Dear Baron Samedi".   A breed of Noble Phantasm that borders along the lines of Spiritual Evocation. Possession(s) play a role within Haitian Lore—functionally are a common practice—an occurrence within Voodoo / Vodun and thus this Phantasm replicates such.   Ordinarily, it would be an individual skill and not a Noble Phantasm— had it not been for Sèl's individual devotion to his Lord that would hold true. Though many Loa were praised, and he paid respects to them all, often working in the art of the dead, the great Baron Samedi was often one, in life, Sèl had been possessed by and channelled the great words of.   Upon true name release, the Divine Spirit (Loa) is called upon and temporarily summoned into the body of Sèl, unlocking Divinity (False) and thereby ascertaining a Pseudo-Rank in it; acting as his vessel and interaction into the world -- his appearance might change -- and his abilities may alter to better suit his Lord-- or rather, those that he shows.   By calling upon the Baron, it could simply be for casual means-- but commonly, as a Servant, it has been materialized to punish those who rob and wrong the dead-- to demolish and subject them as his slaves, all the while laughing and making a mess of them.   One could call this, "Summoning a Heroic Spirit / Divine Spirit and thus using their abilities and nature to resolve / punish faculties in question."   There are various implications to the Noble Phantasm, but all of which are more personal effects than something to worry about. Like… The sudden saying "Send It" having manifested.
