Summer Camp 2022 Pledge! in Farsight High School | World Anvil

Summer Camp 2022 Pledge!

WEEK 1: GOALS AND MOTIVATIONS

CREATIVE GOAL AND MOTIVATION

I want to work on my RPG campaign setting. Whenever applicable it will focus on the Firshore province, which is closest to the town where my campaign will start after this summer. I want to achieve this to challenge myself creatively, which I have never done before (first summer camp, first writing contest!).
I’m excited about expanding my world! I want to make my world living and thriving, to have it be a full experience for my players, so they basically have a wikipedia to fall back upon. I want to delve into highschool themes whenever possible to match my campaign setting.

CHALLENGE GOAL

I need to work on keeping my articles succinct. There's a minimum requirement of 300 words, but I want to set a maximum of 400 words too! I want to reach at least silver (16 prompts), and I would be especially proud of myself if I get to gold (24 prompts).

WEEK 2: CONNECTING THE THEMES TO MY SETTING

EXPANSE (COPPER THEME)

There are several types of expanses in Concordia. The one nearest to Basilford (the hometown of my setting) is the Crumbling Woods National Park. But on a larger scale, there are the Fey Fall jungle, swamps and wastelands in several locations, sprawling agricultural fields, the metropolis that is Scarroton, the capital city. There are also expansive cavern systems that I could explore.

LEADERSHIP (SILVER THEME)

Concordia has a presidency, but there might be an established upper class of the rich and wealthy, imported nobility from the other countries. I could also focus on smaller forms of leadership, like the religious leaders in Basilford, the Farsight highschool principal, or some other important figures in town.

DISCOVERY (GOLD THEME)

My setting is the very essence of exploration. Farsight highschool is an adventuring prep school, adventurers are very common and often well-respected. There are ruins from the age before the Fey Fall, communities of wild tribes out in the jungle, and still secret societies already influencing Concordia. I've played a mini-game I called History Makers with my players, where they played influential factions that had major effects on events of the past. Many of their discoveries could be extrapolated upon too.

MONSTROUS (DIAMOND THEME)

This is one of the things I've been wondering about the most for my upcoming highschool campaign: what would be the right kind of conflict to throw at adventuring teens? It will mostly be small-stakes, but that doesn't mean they can't be involved in bigger themes. The antagonists can be literal monsters, or conniving gang lords, or worse: Umbridge-esque aunties that want what's best for the kids: safety and security. With the Feywild still having a large effect on the Material Plane, foes can be quite whimsical. I'm curious to see what I can make of these prompts!

WEEK 3: INSPIRATION

I didn't have the time and energy to gather inspiration sources this week. However, the best inspiration I have, is within my friends that will enjoy this campaign with me: Aesthie, Blaarten, Lirolay, Nesstea, and Tyyni. (Yes, I am being really cheesy and I love it). We have started making an amazing world together, and I will be more than happy to fill it in further for them.

WEEK 4: PLANNING

Setting dates

I'm planning to do some brainstorming every morning and every evening of Summer Camp. I will use the time in my daily routine to make small notes in a notebook that's ready in the living room. Every friday afternoon, saturday morning and sunday morning, I will spent at least 1 hour writing out the articles.
Sadly the first week of July will be pretty busy for me, so I don't have a midweek evening available, but I will catch up in the weeks after that. I will have writing time planned for the following days:
Week 2
  • Tuesday 12th
  • Thursday 14th
  • Week 3
  • Monday 18th
  • Wednesday 20th
  • Thursday 21st
  • Week 4
  • Tuesday 26th
  • Thursday 28th.

  • Support

I am not one for pledging with strangers, that makes me very uncomfortable. But my best friend Tyyni who did the Summer Camp last year, will be a help line for inspiration, and my partner Blaarten will support me through the process! I can keep them up to date on how many prompts I've finished, let them proof read them, and ask them to remind me to write whenever I need it.
