Zeriades was a powerful black dragon that served as a soldier in Tiamat's army. He enjoyed his station like the rest of his kind during the many centuries that Tiamat held control over the Material Plane. He relished seeing the people of the world cower in fear, and to bend their knees to their masters. He felt superior. However, he was also clever. While the other dragons made fun of the devil armies that served under the Dragon Queen's ally, Asmodeus, he did not. This was because he could see what the others could not. To the other dragons, devils were pathetic creatures born into servitude, whose very core identity was crafted by their Lord. The devils had free will, in a sense, but they lived cowering before their master, unable to rise to greater heights on their own. They were born to be ambitious and power-hungry, but they were forced by their master to compete with each other in cutthroat competition for even the slightest reward. The dragons, Zeriades felt, were no different. They were above the humans and their ilk, but they all bent the knee to their Queen. He grew to hate his brothers for their blindness, and when word of a human Empyrean's birth reached his ears, he saw what the others refused to believe. That the end was coming. Fate had decreed a change. Zeriades would be a slave no more, not to Tiamat, not to fate. So he withdrew, and watched as the war unfolded without him. After a hundred years of conflict, Zeriades was proven correct. The Age of Dragons was over.
The dragon was sure, however, that he would not let patience be his downfall. As long as the Lightborn ruled he was not safe. So he ventured across the Planes to grow in strength until the time was right.

When the Masked King emerged in Kamorell, Zeriades knew his oppurtunity had come. Without warning he attacked, laying waste to Taetora and its people. He set about conquering the lands and proclaimed himself Emperor.
