Origins:
Long ago there was a powerful Spirit that stalked the lands of Kamorell by the name of Yuan-Maw, the Coiled Shadow. A powerful serpent-like creature that emerged during the Age of Death in the year 2804. This was a time where the people of Kamorell felt powerless under the rule of Revilloth. Yuan-Maw was an evil Spirit, satiating himself on the devouring of mortal beings, but he was also cunning. Desperate people saw in his strength their own salvation, and began to follow him.
Yuan-Maw taught them to be sharp of mind and to detach from emotion. Their strength would grow from their cold wickedness, their willingness to sacrifice others to achieve their amitions. He shared with them rituals of human sacrifice and cannibalism to perform in his name, that they would be imbued with his serpentine strength. The fanatical cult forsook their humanity, becoming monsters in the name of their dark master.
However, it was not for naught. The newfound strength of this newly born race was enough to stand to the undead armies of Revilloth and carve out their own kingdom on Kamorell. For many years they ruled, but it was not to last forever. In 3272, shortly after Revilloth's defeat, Yuan-Maw is slain by the Heroes Three, and the Yuan-Ti Kingdom is shattered. The survivors of the cult flee and scatter, never again to rise to such heights.
Today:
Yuan-Ti still follow the teachings of Yuan-Maw, however there is no longer reverence for their fallen lord. The have banished love from their hearts, instead seeing him as a point of origin, and a goal of power. The Yuan-Ti people believe that the power of Yuan-Maw is not gone, but remember and held in the Weave itself, and one day one of them will be able to reach it for themselves, bringing the Yuan-Ti back to glory.
Yuan-Ti Types:
Pureblood:
The lowest ranking Yuan-Ti, purebloods are the closest in resemblence to humankind.
Malison:
The most common type of Yuan-Ti, these make up the middle class and serve as soldiers in Yuan-Ti armies. They appear in various types. The first is a human body with a serpent's head, the second is a human head and body with snakes for arms, and the third is a human head and upper body with a snake's tail below the waist
Abomination:
The most complete form of the intended evolution, abominations have no humanity left. These Yuan-Ti are the top of most groups of their people, leading their brethren to glory.
Broodguard:
Broodguard are not necessarily true members of Yuan-Ti society, instead being created from humanoids unwillingly transformed into mindless beasts obedient to their masters. They perform the simplest of tasks and make up a slave caste in Yuan-Ti society.
Anathema:
A Yuan-Ti Anathema is the state that all Yuan-Ti dream of becoming, but a rare few ever have. It is the rsult of a bloody ritual involving the sacrifice of many serpents and humans alike. The power gained from this transformation is well above any other power the Yuan-ti hold. The Anathema is a six-headed snake monstrosity that is believed be the final step before unlocking the power of Yuan-Maw himself. Anathemas are considered demigods by their kin, and the emergence of one such being would mark the beginning of a new age.
