The Utoa
The Utoa are a tribe of people who live in the northern tundras of Gelada. There are a few different villages scattered throughout the frozen lands, usually led by a few key families.
The Families and their Villages:
The Irkur: Lead Isbjörn. Represented by the Polar Bear
The Hvítur: Lead Pakka. Represented by the Dire Wolf
The Klodi: Lead Fjödur. Represented by the Eagle
Culture
Culture and cultural heritage
The Utoa have close connections to the beasts of Gelada. The most common are the polar bear, winter wolf, and great eagles. These represent the three main families that lead the villages.
Common Dress code
They mostly wear furs and animal pelts.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
It is common for the smiths of the villages to infuse metal with the bones of beasts conquered in battle. This is said to cause the weapons to inherit the soul and powers of the beast. The weapons of a Utoa warrior are very important to them.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
When a baby is born in the village, they are taken to the Hall of the Dead where the ashes of the villages that came before them are rubbed on the child's forehead, signifying that the ancestors will watch over it.
Funerary and Memorial customs
When someone of the village dies, they are burned in a ceremony where every member of the village is present. Their ashes are taken and added to the Hall of the Dead, allowing there spirit to reunite with the other members of the tribe. The spirits are said to watch over the other members of the tribe.
If their body is lost, their soul must undertake a series of challenges to have their soul joined with the rest.
