Caelis Thyrion's tale overheard in the tavern:
“Friends the wardens of Far View have returned with another stunning success! As many of you know, more than a fortnight ago, myself,
Iva Dennegrom,
Donegal, and
Theodrogo set out to hunt the last of a pair of wyverns that had nearly killed all of our compatriots and was harassing a village of fine people known as the Malot down the cliffs below the marsh and the Twins. We journeyed
first to Fort Chimera as a staging point for the the more arduous next leg of our trip down the path of the abandoned gnomish gondola. Those next days of travel were long and slow and we were accosted several times by large flying beasts with the heads of lions, the wings of bats, and long stingered tails that would fling venomous barbs at us. They were no match for our party though, with the sharp shooting of
Donegal,
the sorcerous bolts of
Iva Dennegrom, the great knight
Theodrogo wielding the
Difference Maker, and my own considerable magics made even more devastating by wielding Uther’s ring of evocation, these creatures posed little danger in the end, though some moments were fraught with peril. They did help us in the end as we used their carcasses as bait to hunt the wyvern we came to find. From this point is where we truly started to shine, through our sheer tactical genius. You see,
before we left I traded spells with the Nivelian mage
Bax, for a spell that would allow me hold a creature to the ground if cast successfully. We then devised a trap so ingenious that failure was never a possibility.
Finding a recessed location which we could spy upon from above we placed our bait along with several snares and scent lures and covered the whole area in oil. From there we took up our hidden positions and waited to the wyvern each with our part to play. When the creature appeared, and most likely spotted my ill hidden companions, we sprung our trap.
Iva Dennegrom gave
Theodrogo the ability to fly who struck out at the creature with
holy fire, I then cast the
earthbind spell bringing the flaming creature down to the oil pit in a fiery explosion. From there it was quick work to kill the beast before it could strike against us. Thus would seem an end to the story but no,
Theodrogo, enamored with the ability of flight spent time in the air and found the beasts nest. It was there we found the juvenile wyvern Shirley and using our intellect pacified the beast and made it our friend.
We were then contacted by several members of the
Malot who brought us back to their village after watching our masterful victory over the adult and compulsion of the juvenile into our service. We rested and negotiated with the leaders of the Malot for a couple days and have secured a trading alliance. In return for sending cheese to the Malot, they have agreed to provide a small breeding herd of axe beaks to be kept at Fort Chimera, and an ambassador, the Malot lieutenant Arly, to provide tutelage in the husbandry and breeding of axe beaks. I believe this could be the start of a great alliance between the Malot and FarView."
It was later revealed that the party squared off against 2 Manticores, then later were besieged by 5 more, before the final plan to take down the
dreki (Wyvern). The plot to kill the beast involved staging the mages up high with Donegal and the imp Mahi down by the trap, a manticore carcass surrounded by lamp oil and two hunting traps. Within an instant, the Dreki attacked and was quick set aflame by spells and a flying
Theodrogo. With an utterance,
Caelis sent the creature earthbound where it was trapped and encompassed in fire, easy pickings for
Donegal and a long bow.
The Malot tribe had witnessed the entire exchange and applauded the Wardens bringing them back with a Fresh Wyvern skull as a prize. In thanks the Malot sent the Party back 8 Small Gemstone Carved pieces of art.
