General Summary

Return: Cooks Day, 2nd Week Shine Waning, 597th Year of the Scale
Heroes: Asha, Jocasta Emberheart, Kitrah "KT" Topaz, Mordain Bonebreaker.
Retainers: 9 nivelians led by Chief Centurion Kor.
  Mordain's Field Report:
We learned from Chief Centurion Kor that her people discovered a very strange underground formation while they excavated under their village. She says that her charges claimed this formation is a wall of rock that "sweats" a liquid which corrodes their mining tools. We aim to discover, or uncover, the nature of this unnatural behavior, as well as continue the nivelian's excavations.
The Expeditionary Excavation Force (EEF) made very good time traveling along the Nivelian Village Trail, so much so that we made brief excursions into the "Three Sisters" on Topaz's request to stop there. She desired to translate the Meni writings found within each crypt complex and we thought that was a good idea: her gift of understanding the Meni language is, and will continue to be, a great boon to us! We made haste after Topaz finished her translations and arrived at the ruined Nivelian Village after four days of travel.
We were surpised to see the village was in an even worse state of destruction than was previously reported...Asha particularly noted how the ground was rent and gouged by what must be a very large creature with incredibly powerful talons or claws. She and Kor believe the creature to be a dragon! Not just any dragon, but the slaver dragon that has tormented the nivelians to no end: Jeré Talur.
Nonetheless, we continued to our destination: within a pit deep underground, was the rock wall that the nivelian excavators came upon and could not pass. Yes, the wall was glistening wetly, and when I approached the wall with
a long prodding pole several splotches of the concentrated wetness moved away as if struck! Then they attacked with a strange proboscis of ooze but we were able to defeat the oozes with arrows and magic. NOTE: My skeleton warriors proved their worth in the pit many times over...I will have to think over my self-imposed restrictions in their use.
After the oozes where destroyed, we felt the floor of the pit rumble beneath us. Burrowing beasts--beetle-like in appearance with long, serrated mandibles--burst forth from the ground. We fought them off before even more attempted to surround us. They attacked us with their gnashing mandibles, and easily caught me, Asha, and Jocasta up in them and I thought we were done for. Thankfully we were able to break free with Topaz raining deadly blasts of eldrtich bolts upon them. It was the spraying of acid that truly sucked; it took a moment to wipe the acid away but time is precious in a fight to the death (I should know). Soon enough, these creatures were all defeated. However, the support beams that held up the roof of the pit room splintered during the fighting and we made a mad scramble back up the elevator shaft to escape from being crushed. My skeleton servitors were left behind only after the briefest of moments when I considered rescuing them. (Rescue my undead puppets!?! What in the Hells was I thinking!?!)

We inspected the damage after it was deemed safe to return to the pit, and the repairs took several days. However, tragedy struck just as the repairs were completed: an even
larger beetle creature attacked the repair crew and basically made mince-meat of them. More nivelians lost!! Jocasta leapt on the thing's back to strike at it with her greataxe, but was flung off and landin' hard on her keister, but thankfully unharmed thanks to Brugga's gift of righteous fury. Again we beat back the monster and it burrowed itself away to safety.

Or so we thought! Asha drew a bead from her necklace and threw it down the burrow-tunnel and in a ground-shaking gout of flame--sweet cleansing flame--blew the monstrosity into charred meaty bits.

Rewards Granted

The satisfaction of killing even more monsters that torment the nivelians. They need a godsdamn break from being picked on!
