The Heroes traveled to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) to investigate rumors of monster attacks. When the Heroes arrived at the FOB, they found the ongoing work to establish and build the FOB garrison stalled. Mordain had to straighten out the dwarf Jolin Oakenshield--the Sobarrite commander he assigned to command the garrison--because he lapsed into drinking on the job in reaction to the monster attacks. The Heroes took a few days to reorganize the workforce, lend their expertise, and raise the morale of the soldier-workers. Jolin pointed the Heroes in the direction of the last reported sighting of a very powerful monster that attacked the FOB. The Heroes discovered an ancient road system and followed it until they came across a beast attacking a herd of giant goats, a four-armed gorilla 12 feet tall(?). They let it alone, as it was too busy playing with its "food" to notice them.
They continued along the ancient road to the swamp of the Two-Towered Keep. They were ambushed here and Theodrogo parleyed with their attackers, which turned out to be little frog-men that other Heroes had fought before (Okor, Asha, Farnan, Goldbroad?, Orryn?).
Eventually the Heroes tracked down the monster they were hunting: a Chimera. It was indeed a deadly monster but not against the Heroes. Within moments of engaging the creature in battle, they managed to defeat it when Theodrogo drove his sword home through the beast's chest and into its heart.
When the Heroes returned to the FOB, they renamed the garrison Fort Chimera after the beast that had caused so much panic and despair. The name serves as a reminder that even great beasts can be defeated with courage and ingenuity.
