2022/09/18: Crypt of Second Chances

General Summary

Embark: Harvest Day, The Eve of the Long Night, 597th Year of the Hand
Return: Feast Day, The Celebration of the Long Night, 597th Year of the Hand

  Heroes: Iva, Theodrogo, Mordain, Jocasta
Theodrogo: “It took us five days to make it to this ‘Third Sister’—despite our darkvision, my steed’s skills in the snow, my navigation stone and the map we received from the Nilevians, that was still twice as long as I’d expect in the Shine. In the evenings we were beset by wolves on two occasions, 14 wolves in total and one of those winter wolves with the icy breath. But we dispatched them without great risk, though Iva Dennegrom was touch and go for a while when that blasted winter wolf targeted him—I managed to finish that one off, though it tried unsuccessfully to escape.”   “We made it first to the crypt of Bloodwirth, and then headed north to this unexplored crypt. Iva sent in Mahi, his imp, to explore. Inside there was a mural and statue of some apparently revered woman, but there were others there already. Three creatures stood like humanoids, but we covered in white fur and had horns like rams. They apparently spoke Giant, or at least that’s what Jocasta (Natalie) later told us. Two seemed fixated on the statue while another stood guard, and a host of ice imps appeared tasked with defacing the mural.”   “We decided to confront them, or they decided to confront us as we entered. With the ram-man standing guard coming to investigate the hallway we had tentatively entered, and the ice imps flying fast towards us. I leapt out and with a blast of flame breath managed to defeat them all in one go. But the ram-man was fast and when he turned his frozen stare to Jocasta and later to me, we were paralyzed—as if the ice had encased us and prevented any activity at all. We managed to break free but realized we’d failed to guard our flanks when suddenly another ram-man arrived with a trio of winter wolves. We could have defeated them, I am certain of it, but we had a feeling that time was short and so we bid a hasty retreat—but not before we felled that ram-man that had stared us down in the crypt. And poor Mordain’s mule, King, was a casualty of one of those despicable winter wolves. We will certainly need to head back there to further explore—now that we have blazed the trail, I am hopeful the travel will be faster.”
