2022/02/19: Search for Giants along Far View Trail

General Summary

Cooks Day, 1st Week Shine Ascending, 597th Year of the Hand   Asha's Tale:
"You asked several weeks back for information on what happened on our journey out to slay the giant Jopher had seen, and I appologize that it has taken me so long to explain it, though I'm sure you've picked up some of the details from Goldbroad's song."   We headed out and near to Jopher had his encounter we spotted a giant ready to eat a buck it had slain. We stealthed forward and Jopher proved himself most capable–even I was impressed by how silently he moved.   I was hesitant to attack right away, it seemed wise to retreat slightly and discuss more detailed tactics, but the group disagreed and it hardly seemed that dangerous, so we swarmed forward. It began to throw rocks at us and one of them immediately felled.... ...hmmm, one of the new adventureres, I admit my memory fails me.   At any rate, I yelled at them to retreat and rushed forward to distract it. The ploy worked! And I was even able to stike it with my bow. Goldbroad managed to heal our fallen party member and then something special happened—my mother had told me that one day, when I was old enough and the need was great enough, I would discover I had the power to create darkness. The giant was unbearably strong, and I was unable to get a shot into any of its weak points without anyone else able to engage it... but I remembered her words and called forth a darkness that attatched to the giant's head!!"   Asha laughs and her face lights up with genuine joy at the memory. She sounds as if she is recounting a particularly brazen practical joke on a school teacher, not a pitched battle.   After that he was easy pickings. We just kept shooting at where he had stood until he made a howling motion and attempted to flee. He ran around a bend and tossed some rocks in an indiotic attempt to slow me down. I clambered up around and ambushed him, releasing the darkness just in time to find a weak point and slice him through. By the time the rest of the group made it around the corner he was dead.   After that Jopher made friends with some vultures—they seemed friendly enough, and we split the giants corpse between us.   It was a great success so we decided to press onward down the path to see if we could find the giant's home—it had been clothed in nothing but a dirty loincloth and there wasn't a gold piece or scrap of silver to be found.   Eventually we came to a rocky ravine—it seemed perhaps a little suspicios, but nothing... well. I didn't expect what happened. Small rock creatures attacked us out of nowhere. They were easy to kill, but there were several and as they attacked two giants appeared at the top of the ravine and began tossing boulders at us.   It was one of those boulders that crushed Jopher. We were badly wounded and it looked like there was nothing left... so... we fled.   Asha expression has lost all of the joy it held at the begining of her explanation. She now looks grim. She falls unusually silent as her gaze lingers on the candle flame. She looks up at Orryn "Well. That's what happened."
