Inverted Tower

The Inverted Tower is a prehistoric “tower” built into the ground, located in the middle of the Arid Desert. It descends several miles down, digging far into the Planet’s mantle. Each floor is lined with all sorts of tech, trinkets, and writings. At its bottom, it has machinery to read and predict movements within The Planet’s core.   Its creator is unknown. The Gods’ only guess is that it was made by the Ancients. Its purpose is also not fully clear (i.e., why were they tracking the core?), but Hamsa theorises it was intended to eventually gain information that could lead to being able to harness the core, which is made of pure magic, for its unparalleled power.

Modern history

The True Gods
Early on in their existence, thanks to Nammu’s proximity and subsequent connection to the Undersea Tower, the True Gods were able to find the Inverted Tower as well. They examined its depths at length, racking their brains for theories as to who had built it, and trying to decipher all the writings within. They did not have much success, though it remained a point of interest for some.   Taiga in particular tinkered with the technology quite a bit. He would keep it in mind when a friend of his died.
Taiga and Aria
Taiga was fond of Aria for their unique and valuable worldview, something very important to him as one unique himself. When Aria died he placed them in one of the Tower’s cryogenic chambers complete with computer software which revived the subject upon prompting. This prompt would not come until 1400 years later in the form of an Arid chieftain. (see below)
Hamsa
In ME 663, Hamsa was the first mortal to discover the Inverted Tower (in recorded history), while on expedition in the Desert. Eventually he would explore its deepest depths. In the bottom levels he found magnificent machines which enabled him to see the Planet’s Core on a molecular level; this experience plus repeated interaction and contact with the tools Enlightened him. Now a god, he continued to use the Tower to empower him and enable further research and mapping of the Planet.
Xol-ochi and Arids resurrect Aria
In ME 1998, along the Arids’ monumental journey out of the Desert, they came upon the Inverted Tower. Intending only to use the above-ground cylindrical ruins as a shelter, they soon discovered it just kept going down and down. Their chieftain Xol-ochi led a band into its depths, where they discovered a frozen Aria. They recognised their namesake saint immediately for their lack of eyes, feathered cape, and cane. They soon managed to release them, and Aria was successfully resurrected. (For what happened next, see Xol-ochi’s and Aria’s articles.)
