Oberth Nesher

Boss

Oberth Nesher was a middle-aged human gang lord on the prison island of Inner Jord that staked claim to a large territory near the Great Fortress. The seat of his power was a ruined town about a mile northwest from the Fortress that he operated from as a showing of strength and defiance against the Dwarvish peoples running the prison.   Oberth's town had been shelled multiple times, even up to the recent past. Many of the buildings had partially collapsed or been reduced entirely to rubble and impact craters peppered most of open areas, but he felt that staying in the location was an important statement that made an impression on the peoples newly released from the Fortress that invariably made their way towards what was the nearest thing to civilization they could find. Oberth himself had set up a farce of a noble court in the ruined keep near the first square at the southern gate. When new arrivals to Jord entered the town, they were expected to declare themselves to Oberth and either join his gang or move on within a day. Failing to give allegiance or leave before the day elapsed would result in his guards going after them.   He kept a semblance of order in the town that couldn't be denied. Most people living in the town lived somewhat normal lives, though of quality that was unfit for most humanoid races. Business and trade were very limited due to scarce supplies and money had little practical value, so the majority of exchanges were based on barter or mutual exchange of services for goods and vice versa. Oberth kept a store of supplies under his control and released only enough to maintain stability. He also worked to keep the people of the town unified under him by keeping them reminded of the "oppressor" Dwarves. A Dwarvish statue in the town square had been maintained explicitly for this purpose with the inscribed plaque defaced for propaganda.   When it came to the members of his gang that served as guards or enforcers, Oberth had yet more tricks up his sleeve. Through some unknown means, the man had obtained a variety of eldritch weapon. This weapon took the form of a dagger that would enslave the bodies and wills of any whose blood it tasted. He always made sure that most of the individuals closest to him at any given time were ensnared by the magic of the dagger. They would behave as drones, obeying any command and ignoring any wounds they sustained up until they were completely drained of blood. The effects of the dagger also imbued these followers with eldritch powers.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Muscled, but his physique is beginning to decline slightly with age and being less active with his position of power.

Facial Features

There is a leather patch over his left eye. Like the rest of his body, his face is marked by scars. He often uses a length of cloth to cover the lower half of his face.

Apparel & Accessories

Clothing

Oberth is clad in a collection of mismatched armor that he apparently gained over time living on Jord's Inner Island. The armor covering his chest is made of a light brown leather, scuffed and scratched in numerous places. He wears a coif of old chainmail around his neck. His right shoulder and upper arm is protected by a set of iron plates articulated into a rough pauldron. His pants are fur-lined, but a bit tattered. Over all, he wears a cloak with furred mantle for warmth in the brisk climate of Jord.

Weapons

While he carried a greatsword on his back, his preferred weapon on Jord became his eldritch enchanted dagger that allowed him to become a prominent gang boss. When not using these more "traditional" weapons, he also kept a series of pouches on his person with items to give him the upper hand in combat or facilitate a hasty escape; vials of oil, caltrops, and ball bearings.

Intellectual Characteristics

Oberth possessed a decently keen intellect, which he successfully angled towards his conniving lifestyle. He was apt at creating schemes and plotting towards achieving his goals without regard for the costs engendered in the process.

Morality & Philosophy

Oberth was very driven and lacked heavily in regards of moral scruples. His philosophy was based in personal strength and taking what was within his power to take. If he lacked the outright ability to attain something, being underhanded was perfectly acceptable. He expected anyone below him to either defer to his power or stay out of his way.
