Celestian

(a.k.a. Astral Traveler, Far Wanderer)

Celestian the Far Wanderer was an enigmatic deity of many worlds. Revered by planewalkers and wildspace wanderers. He was one of the major powers worshiped on the Rock of Bral. Among many other names he was also called the Star Wanderer. Ever the wanderer, Celestian did not even maintain a divine realm. Instead, he traveled from place to place within the Astral Plane. Celestian had the power to traverse the Astral Plane at will, including the ability to astrally enter any of the planes that bordered it. Occasionally, he would also venture into the Ethereal Plane or any of the Inner Planes. His petitioners, without a divine realm to inhabit, instead became the stars of his black robes, until finally merging with his essence.   Though he rarely appeared in a physical form, Celestian was portrayed as an older, black-skinned man who traveled the skies. His bright eyes were full of knowledge. Celestian was tall and dressed in black robes covered in stars. Celestian always wore his holy symbol somewhere on his person. His movements were swift and silent.

Divine Domains

Stars and Wanderers
Celestian appealed to good or neutral worshipers who never liked to settle down—not even in a single plane of existence or crystal sphere. Many of these were scholars, navigators, astronomers, astrologers, and the like. The Far Wanderer's presence in the Astral Plane meant that his clerics had a major advantage over those of most other deities, in that their divine magic did not lose power wherever they might go in the Outer Planes, since the Astral bordered all of the Outer Planes of the Great Wheel.

Holy Books & Codes

Travels of the Far Wanderer is a 45-page book of aphorisms and devotionals to Celestian. Worshippers may also study and keep books or charts of astronomy and astrology to better interpret the stars and read into any portents they may hold. Many devotees make a habit of keeping their own logs for positions of heavenly bodies and their metaphysical meanings.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Celestian's holy symbol was an arc of seven stars inside a circle, which glowed in different colors like tiny suns. The seven "stars" were seven gems: amethyst, diamond, emerald, jacinth, ruby, sapphire, and topaz.
The Church of Celestian was divided into seven orders. Priests of each order wore different colored robes, and each wore the holy symbol with a gem of different color in the center of the others. They wore black cloaks over their robes covered in gems to mimic the starry sky. Their favored melee weapon is the shortspear.

Tenets of Faith

Accept all routes and destinations but hold no credence in destiny.
Be kind and hospitable to travelers and seekers to receive the same in kind on your own journeys.
In all choices are paths numerous as the stars; one should always endeavor to seek the brightest one.
Do not presume to know the way for everyone; their paths are their own.
Embrace knowledge and expand horizons for yourself and others.

Mental characteristics

Morality & Philosophy

Celestian is a gentle and enigmatic god, a tireless traveler who prefers to wander among distant stars and roam outside. His divine nature tends towards true neutrality; so much so that even his devotees rarely receive overt favor. Messages derived from the stars and interpreted as being from Celestian tend to be cryptic anc open-ended. It's very rare that Celestian directly interacts with mortals.
