Cormac
Biography
Overview
Cormac mac Con, is heir apparent to one of the most powerful families of Glas. Initially the Rí Ruirech of the powerful Ríocht (Kingdom) of Labraid on the Western coast of Glas, their family was driven from their holdings during the Orkish invasion of the island, and now resides in the court of the current Ard-Rí (High King) of Glas, Ruaidrí.Pre-Invasion
Cormac mac Con of the Uí Máil dynasty was born the first son of Con mac Áedo, to the Ríocht of Labraid. Since Ancient Times, Labraid has been onf of the most powerful Kingdoms on Glas, owing to its fertile soil, amenable topography, and natural protected bay. The Ríthe of Labraid have frequently warred with their neighbors, often subjugating the neighboring Ríocht of Kinvara and warring intermitently with the Ríocht of Eochu over their mutal border. Cormac mac Con grew up reared in an ambitious and aggressive family that was once again ascendent in Glaish politics. Cormac's father, Con, had successfully asserted hegemony over Kinvara and waged several successful wars against Eochu, extracting a yearly tribute that caused Labraid's coffers to swell. It was a distinct possibility that the Uí Máil would be in a position to assert their claims to the High Kingship of Glas within the next several years.Post-Invasion
These plans were shattered by the coming of the Greenskin invasion in -AL1. Labraid was the primary site for the Orkish landing, and the Kingdom fielded significant forces in defense of their lands. When the Glaish and Greenskin armies clashed at An Chill Mhór, a small village northeast of Luiminach on the fertile plains where the Orkish Army initially landed, Labraid led the way, and suffered catastrophic losses. Cormac, then still a child, and Con fled north with their remaining forces through the Sligliath Pass into the Royal Vale, or 'Gleann Ríoga' in Glaish There, the Northern forces rallied and for a time, held back the invaders under the command of their new Ard-Rí, Ruaidrí. However, this came at the cost of losing control of the rest of the island, causing morale to plummet as the tides of war worstened and hope grew more and more distant. Cormac grew to manhood in this environment. Still afforded a standard of living befitting nobility, but living in the constant existential dread of a society that knew it was dying, and knew that death would not be slow or painless. Cormac initially devoted himself to the pleasures of the world, drinking, hunting, feasting, and insolant behavior since it was clear that no skill at arms or Glaish valor could overcome the tide that would soon sweep them from the earth. It was only in AL6, with the coming of the Northern Expedition under Marschell Durand, that true hope for victory started to stir. The advanced flintlock firearms, canons, and armor brought by the Southern King and his officers gave the Glaish forces their first chance at achieving victory on equal footing. Althought the torpor of apathy was slow to lift, Cormac has improved significantly from the dissolute youth he was at the upon first impression and now carries powder and steel into war with a new found fervor for life and homeland.
