How do zones work?
Zones are the method by which the environment is separated in Fallout 2d20, and are most often delineated by the natural boundaries of that environment. For example, in the below example, notice how each area is separated by color into separate zones. The small control room (teal) is a zone, and is separated from its neighboring catwalk zone (red) by a doorway. The catwalk zone is separated from the zone below it (purple) by a stairway, and so on. Typically, characters may use a minor action to move into any location within a neighboring zone, or a major action to move into any location within 2 zones. Zones are intended to be dynamic, allowing the players and GM to focus on storytelling and streamlined encounters.
In the picture below, a character standing inside the teal control room may spend a minor action to move to any location on the red catwalk, or a major action to move to any location on the purple landing or the separate dark purple catwalk segment (CRB p. 36, “The Environment”)
