Museum District
The region commonly known as the Museum District is a section of Old Town and East Portland occupied by two groups: The Thespians and their leader The Critic, who rule a pseudo-medieval territory in downtown from the Portland Art Museum, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (or OMSI) and its robotic residents who operate under a man named Richard.
These groups frequently combat and bicker with one another over all manner of pointless squabbles, which makes life immeasurably more difficult for those who have to put up with them. Unfortunately that frequently encompasses many of Portland's residents, as the two museums share control over one of the only safe means of travel across the Wilamette River.
The Hawthorne Bridge is only operable when both factions are in a conciliatory state, otherwise one or the other is likely to sever their half of the controls and make the bridge impassible until they get their way. Why exactly the bridge is operated in this manner is unsure, though some believe it has to do with some melodramatic pre-war attempt at showing how science and art are two sides of the same coin for human expression.
Just like those ancient fops to needlessly complicate things for the future, eh?
