Personal history

Lot lost his mother as an infant, and was raised among a church of the Children of Atom, who worship the atom bomb and radiation as a holy blessing from their god. Told all his life that his mother chose to become one with Atom, and was blessed, he didn't question their teachings, and built some semblance of a family among its followers.   As a younger acolyte, not yet eligible for the sacrament of Atom, Lot was mostly tasked with passing out flyers as adult members of the church evangelized to the people of the wastes. It was boring work, and he often got stares and a few shoves for his efforts from the folk coming and going in the wastes, but he enjoyed people watching. Every so often he was even able to sneak away and play with some of the local or visiting caravan children.   One day at the age of thirteen, upon being told that he was going to be sent out into the wastes instead of his normal time in the nearby settlements, Lot snuck into the High Confessor's office, finding their terminal and hacking into it. There he found lists of their church's membership, including those who had been blessed by god with his holy radiation. He found no mention of his mother around the time he had been brought to the church. However, another list drew his eye: a list of transgressors who had been cleansed by the church, and assets collected from them. A women was listed there, and he infant son was recorded as a collected asset. Later christened Lot by the Confessor.   His mother had not been a practicing member of the church, but an unwilling victim of it. Horrified, Lot fled the only home and family he had ever known and hitched a ride with a nearby merchant, fleeing the area around St. Elmo and making a life for himself on the road.   Along the road, he reunited with a girl from the caravans who he'd seen around all the time, Mags. The pair have been inseparable ever since.
