Session 5: Science and Sewer Monsters
General Summary
Session 5 began in the aftermath of Jason and Kenny's successful defense of the robot caravan transporting high-value components from the CFR national laboratory to the logistics corps HQ. They conferred with Fredrick, a member of the bandits who had attempted to plunder the caravan but turned on them when denied the parts he needed. Fredrick proved to be an extremely adept fighter. After the fight, he convinced Kenny and Jason to let him take only what he needed before setting off on his own. The duo returned to Benjamin, who ran the logistics for the laboratory. Upon analyzing the hacker's device, Benjamin discovered that it had exploited a virus planted into the Minutemen's internal network many years ago. Investigating it now would likely mean a rapid escalation of events, so he recommended they attend to any other time-sensitive business first.
Jason and Kenny decided to take on the job for Tony, who needed them to evacuate a group of scientists from Spectacle Island, an open-air prison run by the Minutemen. Before leaving, Jason encountered a scientist specializing in super mutant studies, who informed him that synthesizing supermutant cures was very difficult. Prioritizing it would require a significant donation or a favor from someone high in power in the CFR. While in the building, the players met Kutter, a super mutant who had received a serum to help with the mental deficiencies caused by his mutation. He had a love for adventure and decided to join the duo.
The trio set off east towards Starlight, where they decided to investigate the strange creature apparently inhabiting the sewer. They descended into the city's sewer system and battled a strange, hideous mutant squid monster with physiology unlike anything they had seen before, even among mutants. They defeated the monster and found a dead man inside its belly. They reported their success to the city's mayor, who mourned the dead man, her husband. The session ended as the players set off by train east towards the coast to find a boat.
