Session 51: The Sigilite and the Shadow Beast

General Summary

The session began during the battle at the riverbed. Jason, determined to change the course of the battle, helped Ellie mount the repaired autocannon and fired. However, the turret catastrophically backfired, critically wounding him and Ellie.   The Sigilite began his response to the Liberators' assault. Kutter and his men heard new orders blare into the enemies' comms, and the Liberators saw The Siglite preparing some sort of massive spell as he hovered high above the battlefield. The enemy armor began a full retreat, with all the remaining operational vehicles moving far from the Liberators assaulting troops. An APC went full reverse into Kutter, but he shot a missile beneath it and used the momentum to suplex it over his head, flipping it to disable it.   Meanwhile, Kenny had slithered out of the glovebox of the Charger, where he had apparently been for a few days high off his mind on a demon blunt. He wormed his way across the battlefield until he noticed The Sigilite casting his spell. He told Gork who he had crawled over too to throw him at The Sigilite, Gork did so and Kenny unleashed a barrage of attacks in mid air but failed to break The Siglite's focus. Kenny grabbed onto him and held on as he completed his spell.   The Liberators witnessed as a massive portal opened up above to a different sky and enemy artillery rained down across the entire battlefield. Thankfully, the Liberators had retreated to their defensive position and were somewhat shielded, but all of the vehicles, friendly and enemy, were torn apart by shrapnel. Enemy reinforcement had arrived far to the north and south. Akira said they needed to hold out and that artillery support was on the way. The rangers and gunners held the charging hostiles on the flanks, and the super mutants went to intercept enemies approaching up the canyon. This left Kenny and Kutter to defeat The Sigilite.   They charged in and fought valiantly, but the Sigilite responded in kind with a hail of spells. When Kutter got close to the killshot, the Sigilite banished him to the Astral Realm. With Kenny close to death, it would seem The Sigilite would finish him or at least escape, but while drifting in the Astral Realm, Kutter was noticed by Jimbob, who used his new power to enlarge Kutter and send him back to the material realm. Kutter came back twice the size and smashed the Sigilite into the ground in a surprise attack, splitting him in half below the neck. The spell wore off, and Kutter returned to normal size, claiming another head for his growing collection. In moments, the artillery support arrived in the form of cruise missiles wiping out the red tide reinforcements.   The Liberators and the Rangers regrouped and did a damage report. No Liberators had died, but all the vehicles around were emped, fragged, or blown to pieces. At the cars, Ellie and Jason were in dire straights, with Ellie holding pressure on a neck wound and Jason completely unconscious. Once Ellie was on her feet, Blair accused her of being a traitor, bringing up the smuggling tunnel, pulling away the cavalry, and giving a big speech trying to get them to charge into a trap. She defended herself, saying there was no proof. Kutter tabled the issue until they got back to base, stating they needed to focus on getting home. With the cars fried and vertibirds busy down south, they had to trek three days back to Nuka World.   With that, they set out, but after the first day, the rangers reported to Akira that three rangers were missing. Kenny and Kutter, who overheard this, told Blair and then set off into the desert to find him. They retraced their steps, being as stealthy as possible, but something grabbed onto Kutter's leg and started dragging him away. He tried to strike out at it, but he could neither see nor touch what was pulling him. Kenny, however, could see it: a black and cyan smokey eldritch tentacle had wrapped up Kutter's leg and pulled him into the night. Kenny sprinted and caught up, punching with his Ki to dispel the apparition. Kenny saw a massive, betentacled writhing mass like a thousand-legged octopus thrashing in the clearing with the missing rangers inside its body. Kutter could only see the massive amounts of dust getting kicked up and the rangers suspended mid-air.   Just as they were about to engage the creature, they saw a shining light directly across the clearing from them. Kenny witnessed the writhing mass be pulled into a large container, then the rangers dropped from the air, dead and withered like mummies. They saw a tall figure holding the crate who approached. They saw a blonde, bearded, burly man in his 40s with a full suit carrying the heavy container. He stood at 7 ft. tall and likely weighed 450 pounds. He introduced himself as Major Hank Richards, Texas Brotherhood of Steel. He reassured him that he wasn't aligned with Maxson, saying Texans liked going their own way. The players shook his hand, and Kutter felt the weight of the container, which strained even him. Richards said he was there on a mission looking for anomalous lore and asked them if they knew the location of The Fringe Division. Kutter and Kenny were evasive, but Richards asked if they were headed west and if he could join. They agreed. The three returned to the camp where Akira met them, interrogating Richards and then telling them that they were getting airlifted home now that they'd taken casualties.
