Session 47-48: The Anvil
General Summary
The session began with The Liberators rolling out to the Minuteman training area to be tested by General Jane. They arrived and were informed of the training exercise. They would face off against a Minuteman rifle company to control a central objective inside a small simulated town. They had two rifle platoons with infantry, machine gunner, breacher, and medic squads alongside a platoon of specialists including 1st Vanguard and Marksman teams. Finally rounding out the team Ellie led their mechanized forces with Humvees and Trucks while May manned the companies vertibird. The minutemen possessed a more uniform rifle company with 16 squads of infantry and 4 teams each of medical and power armor troops all backed up by two vertibirds along with the enemy commander decked out in full X-01 Power Armor.
The team pushed on the objective using their mechanized units to surround and take over the town quickly. They put one rifle platoon on each flank and had 1st vanguard backed up by their snipers take the center. Kutter and RM led the left flank, Jason and Blair led the right flank, and Cecile and Sharos led the center. The minutemen pushed in and tried using their vertibirds to hit vulnerable points in The Liberator's defense but their ground troops were pinned down and picked off by machine gun emplacements. On the left flank, Kutter engaged in an intense battle with the enemy commander after they cleared out a building with RM's half of their platoon inside. On the right flank, one of the Minuteman platoons never arrived, and towards the end, Blair noted that the squads they fought went down with surprising ease.
The battle firmly swung in the team's favor when May dropped off the gorillas with her vertibird behind the enemies. What was left of The Minutemen's right flank desperately pushed into the town to try and push 1st Vanguard off the objective but the time ran out. After the simulation concluded the players overheard the enemy commander arguing with what sounded like Jane. They eavesdropped and heard that, at least in their opponent's opinion the exercise was rigged in their favor. They discussed what they had seen and wondered why Jane did this. Regardless they met with the enemy commander who took off her helmet revealing Cait McLoughlin, renowned Army Corps Lieutenant. Cecile thanked her for her participation in the exercise and complimented her company's performance but she saw through the lip service but seemed to appreciate the flattery regardless. Cait and the players agreed to have a small celebration with their joint forces before they both deployed.
