Session 46: The Crucible
General Summary
The session began with the Liberators on their way back to the Commonwealth. Jason mostly paced, frustrated about the performance and failure of his armor, not knowing how to occupy himself. Kenny went to the med bay and was properly treated for his festering burn. The medical officer knew it was infected just from the smell when Kenny walked in. He cut away infected areas and cleaned the wounds. He told Kenny to keep it dry and replace the bandage every two days. He also gave Kenny a once-over and some advice on using his new cybernetic arm. In conclusion, the officer told Kenny he couldn't keep going at this rate, he was taking too much damage and using too many stimpacks. Kutter played fetch with RM's dog. Cecile helped some sailors, healing them but tried to pull a prank on them by planting a speaker to start trouble but they spotted it and told him to buzz off.
The next morning they arrived back in the commonwealth. They and their entire company hopped on the vertibirds and flew back to Vantage. Jenkins approved them for landing but they noticed two other vertibirds circling. They landed and they unloaded ADA, Administrator of the Support Corps who greeted them. She stated after a recent analysis of The Liberator's combat effectiveness, higher allocated resources to their organization would grant proportionally higher returns, Increasing the overall effectiveness of the Minuteman Coalition.
She gave them 50,000 caps and stated the Liberators should also have 20,000 caps saved. With some hesitance, Alexander confirmed this. She gave several suggestions including expanding infantry, as well as facilitating mechanized cavalry and air support, and to that end, she gave them eight suits of decommissioned Order Luminarius T-45. She then ordered two more vertibirds to land. Out of the first came Jeremiah Jamison and 1st Vanguard. Out of the second leapt Ellie and her Marauders, the 15 that remained at least. ADA stated they worked out a deal where their crimes would be forgiven, provided they joined The Liberators. Todd and his security team came to brief the two teams before letting them in. Meanwhile, the players and their senior staff called a meeting to facilitate the expansion. Gramps complained about ADA springing this on him and the team.
First Kutter contacted a Minutemen liaison whom he asked about the prospects of recruiting POWs into The Liberators, in order to bolster the numbers of his blades. Then he returned to his Blades who had been talking about what happened up north and he once again gave them the option to leave but was surprised when they accepted. They told him in summary without Jericho there to watch their backs during his wild schemes they didn't like their odds. They left and Kutter went downstairs soon after to walk the ruins and clear his head.
The rest of the team, excited at the prospect of ground vehicles, called The Atom Cats and worked out a deal to restore five cars for 25,000 caps. Their new fleet would consist of two trucks, two Humvees, and one other car. Kenny went behind the team's back and ordered it to be a muscle car.
Next, they laid the foundations for their entire expansion by calling up Maverick Steele who enthusiastically greeted them calling them his second favorite customers which Jason found suspicious. But they told him about the expansion and he was delighted, upping their monthly deal to 20,000 (after some haggling from Alexander) for total ammo and supply coverage including their new fuel requirements. The players grilled Alexander at his earlier hesitation around the 20,000 caps in savings and his strange haggling with Steele but Alexander explained both to the player's satisfaction. But Jason was still suspicious, excusing himself to go ask Todd to record the conversation, which he already was.
Finally, Kutter went to Fort Logan to buy a vertibird from The Order Luminarius and speak to Danse. He was let in after a short case of mistaken identity. He spoke to Danse about Jericho dying and the blades leaving him. Danse told him about General Miller's earlier days of leading the Minutemen where she led her own personal unit, Alpha Squad, into Fort Hagen where seven out of the nine members died. Danse told Kutter that Jane kept leading because the rest of her men still needed her despite any insecurities she had about her leadership, obviously drawing a parallel to Kutter the Blades and The Liberators. Kutter then got down to business, buying a decommissioned vertibird from Danse. After their business was concluded Kutter rode in the non-functional vertibird as it was flown back to Vantage by three others.
At long last, The Marauders and 1st Vanguard were cleared for entry by Todd. RM and Ellie met awkwardly. RM told Ellie she regretted how things had been at Nuka World then told her about what had happened since, how she chose The Liberators over The Insitute and they had accepted her. RM said she's sorry she didn't choose Ellie over the Institute back when she ran but Ellie told her that all that matters is that they're together now and they hug. The players spotted a tear rolling down RM's cheek.
For a month The Liberators put their plan into action. The science team ran on all cylinders, training up their new members and cranking out prosthetics for Kenny and Quinten while refitting the base for their new equipment. Kenny and Kutter trained together: Kutter taught Kenny some of his battlefield mobility and in exchange, Kenny worked more with Kutter on his meditation techniques. Together they taught their troops CQC, Kenny focusing on unarmed and Kutter focusing on melee combat. Cecile began talking to some of his railroad contacts and scraped together a small team of low-level agents to help him with his intelligence work and support The Liberators in asymmetric warfare operations. Jason worked double time training up the science team and refitting his and The Liberator's new power armor. Sharos got in touch with an old friend and colleague, Sturges, in order to get their Vertibird up and running. Sturges ran the entire company through flight simulations, finding May, Kenny and of course, Sharos have a natural talent for it so those three were trained as pilots. Additionally, Doc came through and set up a proper medical corps, training a combat medic for every squad.
When the 3rd Founding was complete The Liberators stood as a whole new company on a new scale, their new organization is as follows. 1st Rifle Platoon is an infantry platoon led by Blair just as before, containing the original three rifle squads with their super mutant heavy gunners and the breacher squad. 2nd Rifle Platoon, under the command of RM after some convincing by Cecile, mirrors this with three new rifle squads possessing power armor-clad gunners in place of super mutants, along with the accompanying breacher squad.
The Support Platoon led by Barry possesses all their specialized frontline units: 1st Vanguard led by Jeremiah, Ellie's Mechanized team, Docs medics, Kenny's turtle freshly outfitted with rocket artillery by the science team, May's vertibird and finally, Jeremy's marksmen. The rest, Benjamin and Jason's Science team, Alexander's finances, and Jenkin's signals team fell under Gramps's HQ platoon.
Almost a month into these changes the players were contacted by General Miller apparently mid-battle. She told them she would be assessing their combat readiness before permitting them on her battlefield. She ordered them to face a rifle company under her command in a joint training operation, giving them three days to prepare.
