Session 45: Blood and Thunder

General Summary

The session began with The Liberators continuing their assault on the artillery base. A rampart blocked the way to their target artillery piece. They killed four more super mutants at the gate but one ran out with a mini nuke to suicide bomb the party but May beat him into the ground. The players went to advance but 6 Heavy Frogmen ran in with a radio. Captain Avery informed them that the frontal assault on The Nucleus was a diversion, all five nuclear warheads had been stolen from the stockpile. Jason immediately radioed this information to Old Longfellow, who was having none of it. But Polk apparently knocked the Admiral out and took command, telling The Liberators they were moving into position and to hold off the loading. The players, backed up by the six Heavy Frogmen moved forward.   They saw a super mutant behemoth loading the artillery piece and a slew of super mutants assisting. They engaged, laying in on the behemoth but it threw the artillery shell it was holding. Kutter caught it and threw it back but it detonated, exploding back on the entire team, injuring them and shredding Jason and the Frogmen's power armor. Kutter threw May onto the behemoth while the Frogmen moved in to box it in and distract it. The players split up to take on the other opponents, Jason went after the officer, Kenny went for the super mutant firing the cannon, and Quinten fell back to get patched up by RM as the blast had blown his arm off. The party battled; the behemoth killed most of the Frogmen with a deadly sweep, Jason's hydraulics gave out, and he had to eject, throwing a hot fusion core into the mouth of the Officer, causing him to run towards the beach and explode, Cecile froze the gunner with his psionics so Kenny and Jason beat on him while May was thrown off of the behemoth. Eventually, they persisted, killing the remaining super mutants and the behemoth.   Kutter and the two remaining Frogmen began to load the cannon, pulling out the nuclear shell, and Kenny took a gunner's position as the Red Tides battleship charged toward them. He spotted Ol' One Eye on the bow, grinning as he charged into battle and the telltale glow of the Sigilite shining out of the ship's bridge. He took a shot at the bridge first, detonating the entire command tower, then as One Eye had retreated he put a hole in the bow at the waterline. The ship began to slowly sink but it was beached before it could take on much water. The bow opened up and a platoon of soldiers marched out. Behind them, an APC bared down on Holdens gun. The Frogmen and Kutter continued to load shells, Kenny put a final shot into the ramp, killing the entire platoon before the APC finished the cannon. When ammo caches around the gun cooked off Kutter heroically threw May and Kenny to safety, as the shells detonated he crawled beneath the dead behemoth.   As the explosions rocked the trench Reshaun Sharos joined the party via Vertibird, however looking over the wrecked trench the party believed Kutter dead until he radioed, telling them where he was. When the dust settled they saw Ol One Eye standing on the Artillery platform and The Sigilite on the ridge overlooking him. May screamed that she was going to keelhaul him and charged into battle. Kenny charged in right after her, and Kutter crawled out from under the behemoth and backed them up. A new battle began as Kutter was grappled and Ol One Eye swung his halberd at the others, knocking out Kenny. Cecile and Sharos engaged the Sigilite with crack shots and psychic attacks but he shrugged off the former and countered the latter. Kutter heard the Sigilite speaking in his mind, calling them the deceiver and he played his role well. Ol One Eye asked if Kutter would give him a good fight and Kutter in his inspiration, considered using his rage but decided against it in a monumental battle of wills. Even without it, he delivered breaking One Eye's grapple and mauling him with his greatsword. As One Eye's strength waned he radioed to his fleet, declaring "Contingency Five".   Kutter saw a salvo headed directly toward the Liberators, he grabbed Kenny and ran for cover, trying to pull May but she shrugged him off yelling that she has it and for him to fuck off. Kutter relented, yelling at her as she ran. The players ran into the dugout and were stunned by the concussive blasts of the artillery even as they avoided the shrapnel. They debated if there was a chance May had survived as they rose, dazed. They saw the Sigilite was gone but Ol One Eye was rising to his feet, leveraging his halberd. As One Eye roared Kutter looked into his eye, and he realized Hercules had taught him the blood rage technique.   But May leapt out from the same behemoth Kutter had and screamed "I'll drink rum from your skull!" and brutally mauled him with her anchor then her fists. Even as he broke her arm she only stabbed his face with the exposed bone, when she was finally satisfied with her work she dragged him with her anchor and loaded him into a cannon. He only weakly struggled while she stuffed a shell in behind him and fired, showering the battlefield in gore, only then did she collapse, with the party noticing the Psycho injectors in her arm.   The battle wound down as the other artillery guns were seized and the Red Tide fleet was hammered from all directions. Over the next three days, The Liberators rested up and cleared all remaining Red Tide forces from The Island. During this May was practically catatonic, not even joining their missions. They departed on the CFR Hollis where Captain Polk told them Admiral Longfellow wanted to speak to them.   They went down to his office and he declared he wanted to apologize. He continued, “Once I prided myself on my wisdom, but recently that pride has made me a fool. I’m resigning, Polk is the Admiral the Minutemen need, not me" The players left him to his devices. Kutter went to the deck to meditate, Kenny tried to teach Kutter some techniques but they didn't stick. RM played with her new dog and Kutter gave up on meditation, finding comfort in playing catch with it. Old Longfellow stood on the balcony, taking in the sea breeze. Kenny strolled up to the bow where May sat. He brought her a gift, Ol One Eyes skull, glued back together, she smiled and thanked him. He asked how she was, she said at first she felt empty but now she felt free. She stood up and thanked him, hugging him. He hugged her back and enjoyed the moment. She sat back down and he joined her just hanging out on the bow together.   Meanwhile, in the hangar, the navy crewman celebrated The Liberators with open arms, rum flowed like water but old rivalries flared. The crewman challenged Jason again to a dance off and he accepted, Cecile joined this time, and together they tore up the floor like gods of dance. From the flight deck, Kenny and May could hear the music, Kenny stood and May followed. With a little convincing, May agreed to join the dance-off. They leaped down 50 feet into the hanger and busted out the most inhumanly stylish moves the wasteland had ever seen, showing up both teams. With moves never seen before in the nation they summoned Alexandru again who stood on the flight deck above, simply stating, "Dandy!" before evaporating again.   Kenny and May accepted their victory and walked off to get more rum. Jason and Cecile made a comeback as Kenny empowered them with his Ki. They were quirked-up white boys with a little bit of swag no one could deny, but could they bust it down sexual style? The Sailors found out as they were danced to exhaustion, only one remained whom Jason and Cecile found familiar, but Jason remembered he was the same crewman who led the sailors in their previous dance battle. Regardless he conceded, congratulating them. In the commissary, a drunken May and Kutter arm wrestled. Kutter beat her out with a burst of strength brought on by his samurai focus and May conceded, She drunkenly berated him for running from the artillery, calling him a coward, and Kutter called her an idiot. Similar insults were traded for some time. But eventually, the night wound down and the players sailed the rest of the way home to the Commonwealth.
