Session 35: Changing Tides

General Summary

The session began with the players facing down a formidable APC and its infantry support. Their Gorillas had retreated after the shock of an artillery barrage, and their troops doubled back, preparing to defend. The Minutemen provided anti-tank weaponry, which Kenny and the Breacher squad distributed to the other squads. The infantry and sniper teams began hammering the enemy infantry and targeting the APC's wheels, attempting to trap it and destroy it with an artillery strike. However, the APC returned fire with its autocannons and heavy guns, destroying buildings and wiping out one of the sniper teams. Jason’s squad was caught in the barrage, with soldiers downed one by one. Jason, with help from Jimbob, desperately dragged them to safety, managing to save all but two. Eventually, all the APC's wheels were destroyed, and despite the infantry’s attempts to repair them, the planned artillery strike hit and obliterated the vehicle. The enemy infantry retreated, and from there, the players pushed them back through the fields and toward the sea. However, before retreating, the enemy made a desperate flanking attempt toward Reshaun’s family farm.   Reshaun and Kenny moved quickly through the woods to the edge of the property, but as they approached, a shot rang out from the house. Reshaun tried to warn Kenny, but the distraction caused him to miss deflecting the shot, which passed through his back and out his chest. Reshaun yelled to his daughter that it was them, and she helped bring Kenny inside, stabilizing him as Reshaun’s wife gathered their most valuable belongings. They then returned to Vantage, where Kenny received further medical attention from RM before the players reunited at the retaken Kingston FOB.   There, Director Lucas gave them new orders to assault the Red Tide flagship. He also sent his elite Rough Riders to assist in the mission. The players chose RM, Blair, Jeremiah, and, after some convincing from Jimbob, May, to join the assault. Jason flirted with Blair, who responded with a mischievous smile.   As the players approached the flagship, they saw the tides turning against the enemy fleet, with Minutemen artillery and vertibirds wreaking havoc. On the deck, the flagship was in chaos, with crew members scrambling. Assault vertibirds took out the still-functioning AA guns, allowing the players and Rough Riders to land. The players quickly secured the deck as the Rough Riders, equipped with jetpacks, eliminated enemies with overwhelming laser fire.   As they advanced into the ship's interior, they faced more resistance but continued to press forward. Eventually, they encountered a group of personnel wearing blue armbands, who asked not to be shot, explaining that their boss had ordered them to assist the Liberators. The players accepted their help and worked with these "Blades" to secure a path to the engine room. At the entrance, more Blades warned that their boss had forbidden entry, but the players insisted on going in, sending the Blades and Rough Riders to secure the rest of the ship.   Inside, they found a gruesome scene—dead engineers and crew strewn about, and screams echoing from deep within. Creeping through the deck, they discovered a hulking super mutant ripping enemies apart with savage brutality. Jimbob recognized him as his old friend Kutter, but something was terribly wrong—Kutter’s eyes were filled with nothing but animalistic rage.   A chaotic battle ensued as the players tried to subdue Kutter. Despite having nine people, they struggled. Kutter grabbed Kenny by the arm, slamming him into Jason and Blair, severely injuring them. With enough thrashing, Kutter tore off Kenny’s arm at the base, leaving him sprawled on the ground. May, reliving her traumatic experience against a similar mutant, fled in terror. Eventually, the players managed to subdue Kutter. When he regained his senses, he was horrified by what he had done. Sharos and RM tended to Kenny’s wounds while Jimbob and Jason began sabotaging the engines.   At that moment, the Sigilite appeared, flanked by two familiar faces—his Heralds, the wizards whose schemes the players had thwarted. The three enemies confronted the players, vengeful and spiteful, attempting to repair the engines with magic. However, Jimbob expertly countered their spells. The battle raged on, and eventually, the ship’s hull was ruptured, with two of the Heralds dead. The Sigilite, realizing defeat, retreated.   The players made a mad dash to gather the Rough Riders, May, and the Blades onto the vertibirds before escaping the sinking flagship.
