Session 28.5 The Beast

General Summary

The session began as Kutter was brought back to prison by the Minutemen forces, smuggling in a fake bottle of Buffout to cover up the staged escape. He was implanted with a tracker and given one to put in Jeremiah, and then they made their escape, "lifting" the heavy hydraulic doors with ease and breaking out of the strange vault structure, finding themselves somewhere in Hollis. The duo departed, living off the land for three days as they searched a few 1st Vanguard safe houses for Hercules. When they arrived at the last one, Kutter approached alone with Jeremiah watching from afar.
Kutter met Hercules, who sneaked up behind him before recognizing him. Hercules tried to suss out Kutter's intentions for a while. Kutter said he wanted to join Hercules, playing up his stupidity to try and gain an edge to obtain intel from him or turn him back towards righteousness. Hercules said Kutter must prove himself. They dueled, with Hercules flying into an incredible rage, beating Kutter into the ground while barely noticing his hits. He reined himself in before delivering the death blow to Kutter. Kutter asked Hercules to teach him this technique, and Hercules agreed. He told Kutter that in battle, he must let go of everything except his rage, clearing his mind and dedicating himself only to the fight. He warned Kutter that this rage would be harder to exit than a normal one, and he would have a hard time telling friend from foe.
Kutter accepted and hesitantly raged, trying as hard as he could to achieve the state of mind Hercules described. Hercules taunted, smacked, and bullied Kutter as he tried and failed, swinging at Hercules pitifully. Eventually, something snapped in Kutter, and his mind went blank. He blacked out and came to slowly as he regained control, finding Hercules pummeled into the ground. Kutter stopped himself from finishing him off. Hercules applauded him, and Kutter saw pride in his eyes.
As the end of his initiation, Hercules brought Kutter to save a small village from the local raider gang. They went into town, and Hercules ordered him to rage. Reluctantly, Kutter gave in. In a blind rage, he slaughtered dozens. Only when he came to did he realize that he had killed all the townspeople in his unrestrained rage. Hercules tried to comfort him, dragging the last villager with them as they walked to the raider fortress. He threw the old man forward, who told the raiders of Kutter's slaughter. They were terrified and surrendered. Hercules forced them into his service and brought Kutter to the top of the fortress, pointing to three other villages, saying Kutter saved them with less bloodshed than if he had just wiped out the raider camp in a costly uprising.
Kutter was in shock throughout all of this but reluctantly followed Hercules's lead, trying to infiltrate deeper into whatever organization commanded him. Before they departed south with the raiders, Kutter met with a horrified Jeremiah, who held Kutter at gunpoint, terrified. Kutter tried to explain everything and told Jeremiah to go and tell the Minutemen to track him, as he was going to the enemy base so they could find it with his implanted tracker. Jeremiah, reluctant and scarred by what he'd seen, lowered his pistol and started heading back to the CFR. Kutter journeyed south for three days, arriving on the hills of Narragansett Bay and looking out to see a navy base seemingly operational in the distance. Hercules welcomed him to The Red Tide.
