Session 23.5: Resurgence
General Summary
The session began with Gerrek and Sharos relaxing at Vantage while the others undertook a mission for The Order Luminarius and Warden Danse. The players received a call from Tony, who specifically requested their assistance, emphasizing a need for subtlety. The players headed to Diamond City, where they did a little shopping at Arturo’s before heading to The Yank's office. Tony informed them that Crimson Hand forces were reforming around a new leader. They then headed to The Dugout, where a depressed Yafim told them that new crooks had come back demanding payment. They waited for the crooks to arrive and then followed them to their base, an abandoned warehouse. They waited a while longer before deciding to breach it. First, they tried to plant a mine to ambush the guards, but Gerrek tripped and fell on the bomb, alerting the guards and leaving him severely burned and surrounded by guards while Sharos jumped onto an adjacent building.
The players fought them off and investigated the compound, finding it full of drugs and other contraband. Gerrek slipped a few Jet into his pockets just before Diamond City Security arrived, taking statements from the players before seeing them on their way. Sharos made friends with Renolds, one of the officers, getting their radio frequency. They interrogated one of the thugs, who told them where they could find the dead drop for the shipments of drugs. They went to investigate, bringing the thug along. Gerrek watched the prisoner while Reshaun set up a sniping position. After a few hours, a group of drug mules arrived. Sharos spotted an enemy sniper overlooking them and engaged, getting into an intense sniper duel but eventually taking him out. During this, Gerrek executed the prisoner then rushed around the side streets and breached the building with weapons drawn, clearing it until he was ambushed by another man, whom he was able to bait into Reshaun's sightline, eliminating him.
From there, the players secured and interrogated the sniper. They obtained the location of a possible hideout and learned his name and story: he was a former Minuteman sniper named Jeremy, and the operation he worked for was run by a woman called The Dutchess. Seeing his talent with a rifle, they offered him a chance to turn his life around. Gerrek and Sharos contacted Renolds and Tony. Reynolds and The Yanks set up a perimeter around the hideout while Tony joined the players in investigating. They entered the building and eventually found another Sentient Glowing One speaking to The Red Baron's former secretary, whom Gerrek had let walk away long ago. They discussed hiccups in the drug smuggling operation and progress on some sort of massive sabotage effort orchestrated by “The Big Guys.” Sharos tried to get in a sneak attack, but the Dutchess saw him and told him to come out. He felt compelled to and entered the room, and they all revealed themselves at her order. She exposited about the deal they were offered by Victor Hawthorne. Then, as she began pointing out the flaws of the Minutemen, the players forcibly recollected the failures they had witnessed in their service.
Tony was shaking, seemingly unable to draw his pistol despite wanting to, just as Sharos was unable to aim his rifle as she spoke. Sharos managed to signal an SOS to Renolds, and Gerrek was able to break the influence. He threw Sharos a tube of Jet and tried to take one himself, but was unable to with the bandages wrapping his face. However, when he did this, the Glowing One unleashed three blasts of energy, knocking all three men down. As they began to pick themselves up, the Glowing One pulled The Dutchess into his cloak and teleported away. The players dusted themselves off and talked to Tony and Renolds. They decided that the bombs had to be investigated ASAP, with the full Liberators lineup on the operation.
