Session 23: Kingfishing

General Summary

The session began with Cutter, Cecile, Leroy, Jason, Quinten, and Kenny licking their wounds the day after the fight with Andy Bates. They learned from Centurion that the airstrike they demanded had killed 17 people. Centurion cut their pay and told them they'd have another job in a while. The gang rested for a few days. Jason completed his new power armor, and the others rested and reflected on the failed mission to stop Bates.   Eventually, they were hired by Warden Danse of the Order Luminarius, who asked them to eliminate a threat inhibiting a salvage operation on the shores of Malden. They obliged, taking a vertibird to the base where they interacted with various personnel. Cecile had some interesting run-ins with Haylen and especially Cade, who seemed to have a dark connection to Cecile.   The players set off, implementing a plan where they would use Leroy as bait to capture the sea monster. When it bit, it nearly dragged Leroy and the whole crane he was attached to out to sea, but Kenny, Kutter, and Jason were able to pull Leroy ashore. It became apparent that the massive monster was only one tentacle of a much larger cephalopod of titanic proportions. The gang laid into it, with Quinten summoning a murder of crows to dive-bomb it, Cecile unleashing Eldritch blasts, Leroy unleashing a smite, and Jason chopping the tentacle clean off.   They went back to the Luminary base and celebrated, making connections by roasting the massive chunks of tentacle for the members. The next morning, Custodes Rhys dropped the Liberators off in a park near Vantage. However, on the way back, Kenny saw a familiar-looking deli. When he went to explore it, his memories from before the war began to re-emerge, and he explored his pre-war home, the apartment above the deli. This led him on a walk across Boston where he experienced visions of a day before the war that ended with his apparent death by nuclear detonation. He even found what appeared to be a nuclear shadow on the wall next to where he apparently was when the bomb detonated.   Disturbed by this, Kenny desperately pushed the possibility that he died on the day the bombs dropped from his head. Then, strange pale ghouls, much like the ones the party almost died to in Dunwich Bores, emerged from the building and presented Kenny with a message apparently written by his master that beckoned him to seek him out at Dunwich Bores. Kenny vehemently denied the request mentally, which apparently triggered the disease that had laid dormant in Kenny and Kutter's blood. Cecile had a similar reaction; moving away from the scroll had no effect.   They sought out Dr. Sun at Diamond City, who told them their blood samples had exploded at about the same time they were racked by pain in their blood. Upon analyzing another blood sample from each of them, the vials exploded right in front of their eyes. Not knowing what else to do with the sickness gripping them and preventing them from healing, they uploaded samples of their blood as RM-47 had requested just before the samples blew up in the vial, hoping that she might have a solution. With no way to communicate with her, they could only hope.
