Session 13: A World of Refreshment

General Summary

The session began as the group decided to investigate the chaos in the parks around them, first heading north to Safari Adventure. On the road, they met a man named Leroy Pipes, who introduced himself as a Paladin of Atom on a holy quest to retrieve the venerable Quantum X-01, a holy relic to his people. The party invited him to unite forces so they'd have a better chance of achieving both goals. Leroy agreed, and they set off.
Reaching Safari Adventure, they were informed by a Minuteman squad that the entire zoo had been overrun by Gatorclaws, vicious gator-deathclaw hybrids that had torn apart the town. The players offered to help, and together with the squad, they moved in to exterminate the threat. The players mowed through two groups but found that the Minutemen squad had barely survived their encounter, with only two Gatorclaws remaining. They avenged the Minutemen and then camped out in the zoo for the night, enjoying the ambiance.
They met a tribe of sentient ghoulrillas and allied with them. The ghoulrillas were excited by the prospect of combat and adventure in the more temperate Commonwealth as opposed to the scorching territory of Nuka World. The players awoke the next day, and Leroy used his connection to Atom to divine the location of the first Star Core, finding it beneath a massive rollercoaster, the Angry Anaconda.
The players moved on to the next park, Dry Rock Gulch, and found it in much less disarray and much more inhabited. It was a quaint western scavenger town. They went to a bar to ask around for information. The Liberators asked about Ellie's Marauders, and Leroy inquired about the Star Core. The barkeep informed them that Old Man Jenkins had found it and would finally be able to retire. The players headed over to Jenkins' shack, trying to get the Star Core for free but failing. Instead, they traded Gerrek's chip for the Star Core.
As he walked away, Gerrek felt a need to retrieve the chip. Leroy backed him, and together they ranted about how Jenkins had disrespected them by not giving it to them for free. They went back in and tried to rob him, which RM overheard. Jenkins asked Gerrek what the Minutemen would think if they were there. Gerrek replied that the Minutemen weren't there. Jenkins revealed that he was a Minuteman, and a good one too, before drawing on Gerrek. A fight broke out as Gerrek and Leroy tried to kill Jenkins for the chip, while Kenny and Kutter tried to save him.
Kenny threw Leroy out onto the street, so Leroy whipped out his flamethrower and burned Jenkins's cabin to the ground. Kenny paid Jenkins back for the chip, and Jenkins fled, thanking him. The players cooled down, with everyone getting most of what they wanted, except Kenny, who was down 1,000 caps. They then headed off to the Nuka World Power Plant to investigate what had happened there. After seeing railgun scorch marks and power fist hydraulic fluid around the factory, they were completely stumped as to who could have done this.
