Session 12: The Long Road West
General Summary
In this session, the players ran a few errands around the Commonwealth before heading west to Nuka World. Notable events included Kenny fishing up some dolphin meat and the players clearing a path through ghouls to help build a road.
The players received their first mission from Centurion: a prison break had occurred in the Nuka World Territory, and Centurion suspected foul play. Kutter gave a blood sample to Vergil in Greygarden to analyze his advanced growth.
They saw explosions and laser fire emanating from the overpass above the college. They investigated and found a robotics class, where dozens of college kids were pitting their combat robots against each other. Kutter immediately tried to join in but was pulled down by the students.
In the workshop, Kenny, Fisto, and Kutter observed the robot parts, finding a new pair of less curvy legs for Fisto. Suddenly, the strange husband of the Assaultron burst in looking for his wife's legs. Kenny quickly hid Fisto. Fisto attached the new legs as the man was chased off by the students, who had apparently dealt with him before. However, he managed to steal his wife's legs now that they were detached from Fisto. Kutter bought a sledgehammer.
The players headed west to Nuka World, losing contact with Centurion, and RM lost contact with the Institute. The players arrived to see Nuka Town USA rioting, where they met Gerrek's old ranger buddy who had been promoted to Ranger Sheriff. He briefed them on the situation: the prison break had released the raider prisoners, and mass panic had ensued. The players resolved to hunt down these marauders by asking around town for information and meeting back in a few days.
Kenny and RM went to the market to ask around. They learned a few different stories about the marauders and their leader, Ellie. Those who had met the marauders previously found it surprising that they were breaking the prisoners out, as they, and especially Ellie, had been considered a bunch of naive but well-meaning idealists. Kenny also met a major scrap trader in the area and spoke to him about the region. The trader told Kenny about the Galactic Zone, which was untouched due to the many haywire robots still protecting it from all life. Kenny offered to help by restoring the Star Command mainframe and shutting down the robots. With RM leading, she and Kenny easily parkoured and stealthed their way through the park, finding enough star cores to shut the robots down. Kenny returned to the trader, who thanked him profusely and paid him generously, promising to keep the best rides deconstructed for now. RM told Kenny that Ellie was a threat and needed to be killed, Kenny asked how she could be so sure but she didn't elaborate.
Determined to experience the pre-war joy of a day at the amusement park, Kenny traveled to the power plant far west of the park. When he reactivated the power, a beautiful display of fireworks sprang forth from across the park, but soon they were replaced by explosions and crashes as half-disassembled rides from across the park were reactivated without warning. Kenny was horrified but morbidly amused, while RM was just amused. They agreed to never speak of it and headed back to Nuka Town USA to meet up with the others.
