Anatomy

Aesir are almost identical to humans. They are known to be a good deal larger in size, much more long-lived, and also physically stronger.

In the same way as humans.

Growth Rate & Stages

Up until 18, Aesir age in much the same way as humans. After that, they have fully matured, and gain full control over their physical appearance. Some choose to look young, while some choose to look old.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aesir are fond drinkers of alcohol. Due to their much stronger immune system, they can drink much more without becoming intoxicated. Drinking competitions are very common in Asgard.

Social Structure

Aesir have a patriarchal structure, ruled by a man called the All-Father, which has for the past few millennia been a title held by Odin Borson.

Facial characteristics

Their hair tends to be red, white or blond, while their eyes tend to be blue and hazel.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Nearly all Aesir dwell in the realm of Asgard, but some live in other realms, either for the challenge or to get away from all the others. Thor Odinson, for example, is well known for frequenting Midgard due to it being the home of his mother, Jord Annarsdotter, a Jötunn from Midgard.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have the same senses as humans. However, their technology exceeds ours, allowing them to sense much more of the world.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

First names are based on prophecies given by the Norns, who foretell the fate of the Aesir child and the parents will choose an appropriate name for this.
Last names are derived from the last name of the father (e.g. Odinson, Odinsdotter)

Courtship Ideals

Adultery is considered a horrible sin in Asgard, and so Aesir are very faithful, especially compared to humans. While flings are very common to have, doing this while in wedlock with another is simply wrong.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Like most of the other nine realms, Aesir communicate using the language of Futhark.

Common Taboos

The worst thing an Aesir could do is break an oath. The Aesir take oaths very seriously.

The first Aesir was Buri, who was born out of the ice in Niflheim.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The three other species that Aesir interact with most are Humans, Jötnar and Vanir. These relationships are ones of politics, friendship or courtship. After the Aesir-Vanir War, which ravaged both Asgard, Vanaheim and all other realms involved, the Aesir and the Vanir traded two gods to live with the other so that a similar conflict wouldn't break out.

Their strength leads to Aesir being incredibly muscular. They are not particularly lithe, except with some exceptions.

Most Aesir are pale-skinned. Due to the passing of Asgard's seasons, they do not see much sunlight.
