Phasal Tree Pollen

The Phasal Tree supporting the city of Fairtree sheds a substance commonly known as 'pollen' in a semi-cyclic fashion. Pollen is a magically charged substance used in several industries and notably significant in Fairtree's magical creature ecology. It is also responsible for a large percentage of magical gifts in Fairtree, as it can manifest them in humans. 
Humans infected by pollen cannot survive leaving Fairtree for approximately six weeks after symptoms begin. After this time frame, most infected humans can safely depart, although it is very rare for phasal magic to function beyond the Phasal Tree.
Magic gifts usually manifest during infection, but may manifest later in life.
